New ep! @robertwrighter joins us to discuss his new book, The God Test. @VadenMasrani manages to behave himself (mostly), @BennyChugg tries to ingratiate himself as a nonzero subscriber, and Bob fends off accusations of unfalsifiability

New patreon episode on OpenAI's Erdös problem breakthrough. Can @VadenMasrani remain unimpressed in the face of this achievement? Is @BennyChugg ready to admit that statistical learning can in fact do everything?!

A conservation between @ZakeryMizell and @BennyChugg on objective theories of art and beauty. Do different species share the same conception of beauty? Can we say that one painting is objectively more beautiful than another?

Patreon episode where we prepare for our convo with @robertwrighter. From teleology to emergent properties of neural nets, @VadenMasrani and @BennyChugg cover a lot, getting mad at each other in the process. Full episode with Wright coming soon!

Such a fun conversation.
He says “criticizing crit-rats,” which admittedly does happen in the episode. And admittedly, I’ve done that on my podcast—particularly around the claim that critical rationalism implies anarcho-capitalism.
But I’d note that I spent considerable time steelmanning their views (at Vaden’s request!), and talking about the strength of their views.
And even the idea of “criticizing your own tribe” because you have to worry about “the health of your own tribe” was part of my criticisms of Republicans, not Crit-Rats.
New ep! @VadenMasrani sits down with @bnielson01 and Peter Johansen to criticize some of the bad memes floating around in the crit-rat community. Does Popperianism actually imply anarcho-capitalism? Does anyone know how to spell Bruce's last name?

New ep! We have a good faith debate with a pseudonymous Trump supporter about MAGA, trial and error in politics, bureaucracy, and immigration. @VadenMasrani is in his element and @BennyChugg is still horrified we have to talk about politics

Thoughtful podcast critiquing John Haidt's "sloppy" scholarship (the same description I find most appropriate). This episode focuses on his exaggerated claims of media effects, not his downplaying legitimate real life danger, but it illustrates the same sloppy methods.
New ep! What is truth? Can we say it exists even if we can't say if we have it? Is it a question used by demagogues to induce uncertainty? Why are so many theories of truth untrue? @VadenMasrani and @BennyChugg explore Chap 10 of C&R by Popper

New ep! Did the leaders of effective altruism have ulterior motives from the beginning? Was the plan always to pivot to longtermism and AI safety?
@VadenMasrani says yes, @BennyChugg says no, and they fight about it for 2 hours

Early ep access up for patrons! A spicy one - @BennyChugg and @VadenMasrani dive into the roots of effective altruism. Was it a secret front for AI safety from the beginning? The screenshot accurately captures the vibe

New patreon ep! Round n of arguing about effective altruism. @BennyChugg thinks @VadenMasrani is a conspiracy theorist and Vaden thinks Ben is part of the conspiracy

New ep! More on Popper's philosophy of science, and his notion of content specifically. Plus @VadenMasrani changes his mind after reading two sentences from Popper after arguing with @BennyChugg about the exact same thing for years. Classic
