Minima is targeting physical chip prototypes by the end of Phase 3

Arm, Siemens, and the University of Southampton are all involved

this just got very real

so there’s a line in Minima’s Q3 update that caught my attention because it changes how i think about the Minima on Chip programme.

Phase 3 has now been confirmed, with the programme targeting two major outcomes:

tape out and physical prototypes

if you’re not familiar with chip development, tape out basically means the chip design has reached the point where it’s sent to a manufacturer to be physically produced

and physical prototypes means actual silicon

this is different from another simulation, and it is not another research paper

it is an actual hardware with Minima’s verification capabilities designed into it

this is undoubtedly a pretty significant jump from where this programme started

Phase 1 and Phase 2 were about proving that Minima could run on low power embedded hardware and validating the architecture

this Phase 3 is about taking what worked and pushing it toward custom silicon

and the partners make this even more interesting

Arm brings the chip architecture already used across smartphones, vehicles and embedded systems

Siemens brings experience across industrial automation, energy infrastructure and connected systems

the University of Southampton brings the research side of the programme.

so this isn’t Minima trying to build a chip in isolation

it’s working with organisations that already operate across the hardware and industrial stack

and if Minima eventually gets its verification capabilities into production silicon, the results are pretty interesting

a device wouldn’t necessarily need to install a separate software layer to participate in the network

the verification capability could exist at the hardware level itself

that’s the bigger idea behind Minima on Chip.

it’s not just about putting Minima on more devices

but making the hardware itself part of the infrastructure

i don’t know exactly what the final prototype will look like, or how quickly this moves from prototype to commercial deployment

but tape out by the end of Phase 3 is the milestone that makes this feel considerably less theoretical

we’re no longer just talking about whether Minima can run on a chip.

we’re talking about whether Minima can help make the chip part of the network.

so there’s a detail in the Edge Studio announcement that i think is more important than the beta launch itself

that’s interesting because this isn’t just another blockchain developer tool being built around generic hardware

it’s being built around one of the most accessible pieces of hardware for experimenting with connected devices

Edge Studio is essentially a developer workbench that turns a Raspberry Pi into a programmable, and verifiable machine environment

and the problem it’s trying to solve is pretty straightforward

machines are constantly generating data, but most of that data has no reliable provenance

you can see what a device says happened

but how do you prove the data was actually generated when and where it claims?

and how do you know it wasn’t altered afterward?

that’s where Minima’s infrastructure comes in.

a developer can build an application on the Pi, have the device generate data, and use the Minima network to create a verifiable record of that data.

so you get more than just a database full of machine outputs.

you get a tamper evident history of what the device produced

and there’s a bigger reason i find the Raspberry Pi angle interesting

Raspberry Pi is often used to prototype systems before developers move toward dedicated production hardware.

so Edge Studio sits at an important point in the development cycle

developers can experiment with verifiable machine data before deciding what the final system should look like.

Minima is targeting 10,000 Edge Studio implementations during 2026, with monetisation expected to begin in Q1 2027.

if developers start building with Minima powered verification at the prototype stage, the interesting question becomes what happens when those prototypes graduate into production hardware.

because the verification layer can potentially graduate with them.

that’s the distribution logic here.

Minima isn’t only trying to convince people to run blockchain software.

it’s trying to get developers building machines that are verifiable from the beginning.

and having Raspberry Pi involved in the path toward the full release makes that strategy considerably more interesting

This part of @Minima_Global CEO’s post really caught my attention:

“The system being audited shouldn't be the only authority on the evidence used to audit it.”

That’s a simple point, but it becomes pretty important as AI agents start doing more on their own.

If an agent can interact with APIs, databases, cloud systems and other tools, we need a way to verify what actually happened, not just rely on the record the system itself provides.
