#WATCH | This is very good for the garment industry. New Zealand currently imports around $1.4 billion worth of garments, and India’s share is only about 4%. With the FTA, we expect our share to triple within the next two years.

This is mainly a labour-oriented industry, which gives India a significant advantage. Under the leadership of Prime Minister @narendramodi and Union Minister Piyush Goyal, India is moving towards FTAs with 38 countries. This could be a major benefit, as these countries together account for nearly 60% of the world’s population.

India also has strong and competitive raw material capabilities, while many other countries depend on imports. Another key advantage is that around 60% of these 38 countries do not have apparel manufacturing capabilities, which means they may increasingly source apparel from India. The next decade could truly belong to India’s apparel industry: Dr. Sakthivel
