As part of the Ministry’s Three-Month Vigilance Awareness Campaign 2026, the Ministry of MSME organised a knowledge session on “GeM: Making Public Procurement Transparent, Efficient and Inclusive” on 25th September 2026.

Shri Rajesh Kumar Meena, Director (GeM), conducted the session, covering key technical and procedural aspects of GeM. Held in hybrid mode, the session focused on strengthening compliance and promoting transparent and efficient procurement practices. It was attended by CVOs of organisations under the Ministry and around 400 officials.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, facilitating better understanding of the topics discussed.

Delegation of Ministry of MSME led by Secretary, Ministry of MSME, Shri Bharat Khera, along with Ankita Pandey, Director in M/o MSME, Shri Pawan Kumar Gupta, Director MSME DFO, Cuttack Orissa, Shri Madhukar Babu, Joint Director Industries, Telangana and Shri Sandeep Rokade, Joint Commissioner Industries, Pune, Maharashtra and Ms. Antonia Menezes, representative from the World Bank visited Cyberjustice Laboratory at the Université de Montréal to understand innovative approaches to digital justice and online dispute resolution (ODR).

Interaction held between Indian delegation and Mr. Valentine Callipel and his team,
which provided valuable insights into the use of technology-enabled justice mechanisms, digital platforms and mediation for making dispute resolution more accessible, efficient and user-friendly. Cyberjustice laboratory exhibited their digital tools like ParLe, Justicebot and LLMediation for enhancing reach of justice, providing guided assistance to citizens and AI enabled faster solutions.

The engagement was particularly relevant to India’s efforts towards strengthening ODR mechanisms and its digital public infrastructure, ODR portal for MSMEs and facilitating faster resolution of commercial and delayed-payment disputes. The exchange of experiences offered useful perspectives on the role of technology and mediation in improving access to justice and supporting businesses, including MSMEs.

The meeting underscored the potential for continued knowledge exchange and institutional collaboration in leveraging technology to build more efficient, accessible and responsive dispute-resolution systems.

held an interaction with the Shri Dinesh Patnaik, High Commissioner of India in Ottawa and his team to discuss opportunities for strengthening India-Canada cooperation in the MSME sector.

The discussions focused on key areas including enhancing market access for MSMEs, promoting exports, facilitating technology and knowledge exchange, supporting innovation and digital adoption, and enabling greater integration of MSMEs into global value chains.

The interaction also provided an opportunity to discuss the role of Indian missions in facilitating linkages between Indian MSMEs and Canadian businesses, institutions and potential partners, as well as creating greater awareness of opportunities available to enterprises in both countries.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of institutional cooperation and coordinated efforts to support the internationalisation of MSMEs and strengthen India-Canada engagement, particularly by creating new avenues for trade, technology, investment and knowledge partnerships.

The Ministry of MSME has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), to institutionalize a mechanism for sharing relevant data for the development and strengthening of the Statistical Business Register (SBR).

The MoU will facilitate a structured framework for sharing relevant information from the Udyam Registration ecosystem of the Ministry of MSME with MoSPI. The information will contribute to improving the coverage, consistency and reliability of business information used for statistical purposes.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Rajneesh, Additional Secretary & Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME and Dr. Dalip Singh, Additional Director General, MoSPI, in the presence of senior officers from Ministry of MSME and MoSPI.

The Indian delegation led by Secretary, Ministry of MSME, Shri Bharat Khera, along with senior officers from the Ministry and State Governments and a representative from the World Bank, visited Mr. Frank Des Rosiers, Assistant Deputy Minister, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan).

The interaction provided an opportunity to understand Canada’s approach to energy efficiency, clean technology and technology-led solutions, with discussions particularly relevant to enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of MSMEs. Emphasis was placed on promoting the adoption of green technologies and sustainable practices by small businesses, while minimising upfront costs, enabling them to improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact and become more competitive in international markets.

ISED, the federal department of the Government of Canada, plays an important role in fostering a competitive, knowledge-based economy, with a specific focus on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises.

The interaction provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on MSME development, entrepreneurship, access to capital, digital adoption, innovation and technology-led business growth. Discussions also covered approaches to resolving delayed-payment disputes and supporting SMEs facing financial distress, recognising the importance of timely payments and effective mechanisms for helping viable small businesses navigate financial challenges.

The meeting witnessed strong convergence in the commitment, initiatives and vision of both institutions, providing a valuable foundation for sharing best practices and exploring areas of mutual cooperation to further strengthen the MSME ecosystem in India and Canada.
