Officer: "Tumhari jaati kya hai?"
Farmer: "Main Pandey hoon, aur woh Pasi hai."
Officer: "Chalo, ise SC/ST wala lagao!"
Revenue department officer allegedly threatened to book a farmer under the SC/ST Act during a land measurement dispute in Hardoi, UP
Farmer: I’m Pandey, and he’s Pasi.
Officer: Take him away. Charge him under SC/ST.
This is how the SC/ST Act is allegedly being misused, even over ordinary verbal disputes.
For the coming week:
0. You’ll see hoardings and banners everywhere assuring everyone that UPI is still FREE for every citizen
1. You’ll see influencers explaining how impossible it is to run such a complex UPI infra with no charges
2. You’ll see TV channels calling experts to talk about how complex the tech is behind running UPI at such a low cost
3. You’ll see ads and marketing campaigns of small vendors happily accepting digital UPI payments
Bhai Chandra sahab ke ₹22,000 crores maaf nahi karte to India mein UPI agle 20 saal tak free chal jaata by government’s number of ₹8,000 crores subsidy.
Also NPCI - which runs UPI has ₹6,119 hard cash on its balance sheet and pre tax operating profit of ₹1,900 crores. NPCI apne cash pe and profits par zindagi bhar UPI free chala sakti hai. Government ka kuchh lena dena hi nahi hai. Government earned ₹1,000 crores tax from NPCI last year.
India mein koi 5 minutes number Google kar le to doodh ka doodh paani ka paani ho jaye.
RBI surplus to Govt : ₹2.87 Lakh Crores (US$30 Bn)
Total listed bank profits : ₹4.11 Lakh Crores (US$42 Bn)
NPCI - which runs UPI pre tax ‘surplus’ : ₹ 1,888 crores (US$200 Mn)
To nuksaan kis ka ho raha hai UPI se aur kaunsi subsidy de rahi hai Govt UPI pe jo chubh rahi hai?
Cost of running ATMs and cash logistics in India is ₹30,500 crores (US$ 3.0 Bn). If you want to optimise shut ATMs and promote UPI instead.
Any levy on UPI is just tax collection. UPI is the one scientific achievement of India everyone acknowledges par ab tax ki bali chadhegi.
Customer: Kitna Hua
Shopkeeper: 10 Hazar
Customer: UPI Kr du?
Shopkeeper: Haa kr do lekin fir 10000 aur alag se 200 aur upi krne honge aapke.
Customer: Pr 200 extra Kyu
Shopkeeper: Kyunki Sarkar humse 2% extra legi agar transaction 2000 se upar ho toh.
Customer: To fir rehne do main aapko 10000 cash hi de deta hu.
Moral of the Story: UPI will die soon, just like credit cards, and cash culture will be back.
Seems the Centre is misjudging the public mood right now. Why else introduce a fee on UPI and make things worse for your own standing?
Sure, running UPI costs money, no one expects it to be entirely free. But the cash-heavy system we had before cost significantly more. In reality, UPI saves the govt far more money than it takes to maintain.
Think of it like this: You used to pay ₹1,500 a month to ride a crowded bus. Then you switched to the metro, which costs only ₹800 a month. Instead of being happy that you're saving ₹700 every month and getting a better ride, you start complaining about spending ₹800. That’s exactly what’s happening here. The govt is complaining about the visible maintenance cost of UPI while completely ignoring the massive savings and value it has gained.
By shifting millions of transactions online, UPI reduced tax evasion, boosted compliance, and expanded the formal economy. It slashed cash-handling costs like printing, transport, and security, while ensuring cleaner, leak-proof welfare payouts. Its digital trail suppresses black money and fraud.
So why ruin one of the most successful systems India has ever built? The claim that merchants will absorb the cost instead of consumers is absurd. There isn't a single fee or tax levied on businesses in India that doesn't ultimately get passed down to the buyer. A 0.4% fee, even capped at ₹300 per transaction, will simply be tacked onto consumer bills, driving people right back to using cash.
Look at the irony! Chinmoy Krishna Das is a saint from a Dalit community, supported by the upper castes in India, while self-proclaimed Dalit thinkers mock him.
We have incidents of Rathore and Sisodia kings from Rajasthan marching all the way to Gaya when they heard of hindu oppression, now we have this bhimta rashtra.
