Imagine playing monopoly and never buying any assets or investments that generate income.
Imagine you just go around collecting $200, giving your money to the rich, and trying to stay out of jail.
That's how most people live their lives.
It wasn’t.
With rare exception, colonies were unprofitable, meaning more was spent building infrastructure like roads, railways, buildings, etc. than was exported.
And look at places like Singapore and Hong Kong. Both were colonies for a long time and yet they are extremely prosperous.
@Mike42726245 I feel even the Zamtel deal was cancelled to the detriment of the people. 15 years down the line, the company is still struggling and running on losses year in year out. It definitely would have performed better financially under a private entity than being state-run.
@Mike42726245 In contrast, the UPND government has secured a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), which delivers the infrastructure without taking on new debt.
@Mike42726245 There's a key distinction to make here regarding how this project is funded. The previous PF government intended to finance the road through a $1.3 billion loan from China, which wasn't free money and would have added interest, further straining our national debt.
