There was A LOT of fascinating stuff out of the MDC meeting on the Indianapolis data center moratorium.

First, there was a lot of discussion about making sure the three already approved data centers STAY approved.

Spoiler alert: They will. Officials put it on the record that those three projects are outside the moratorium and will move forward. Indiana's vested rights law protects those existing development rights.

Then Democrat @BootsForIndy said they aren't necessarily against data centers. They just want to “pump the brakes,” pause new projects and let DMD bring in the “experts” to study the issue.

But @CouncilorHart made the REALLY interesting point.

He said the moratorium effectively pushes the issue until a new City Council takes office in 2028.

His concern? The new councilors won't be as educated on data centers as the current council, while developers will have spent the moratorium planning and learning the issue.

His words: developers could be “a lot smarter on this topic” than the new councilors.

So:
-the moratorium doesn't stop developers from planning.
-It doesn't affect the three approved projects.
-It just pushes the fight to 2028.

And remember, it runs through December 31, 2027.

Fascinating.

Also, there was a black guy that was losing his mind on the floor because he wasn't allowed to speak about the moratorium.....The chair had to calm him down.

So when you hear “the Indiana Energy Association supports this policy”… understand what that really means:
Indiana’s biggest utilities are pushing for it.

Its members include major IOUs like:

• CenterPoint Energy

Their own lobbying filings show six figures spent on influencing state policy, including lobbyist compensation, receptions, entertainment, and legislative activities.

According to the WTHR article, Jamesley Amilcar had only been out of jail for three months after being convicted of similar property crimes before allegedly going on another vandalism spree in downtown Indianapolis.

If only there had been some clue this might happen...

Then you look at the attached court records.

Since 2023: six separate criminal cases. Criminal mischief. Vandalism. Trespassing. Theft. Disorderly conduct. Multiple convictions. Multiple releases.

But yes, this latest arrest was apparently impossible to predict. The revolving door keeps spinning, and taxpayers and small business owners keep paying the price.

Under Tim Cook, Apple systematically strayed from Steve Jobs’ core vision. Product Design, the very soul of the company Jobs rebuilt, was demoted, sidelined, and subordinated to operations, supply-chain efficiency, and services revenue. The result? Fifteen long years of polished, but profoundly boring iteration: thinner bezels, faster chips, incremental camera bumps, and endless “Pro” variants that rarely moved the industry forward the way the original iPhone, iPad, or even the aluminum unibody MacBooks once did.

Jobs put Design at the absolute top of the food chain. Jony Ive’s group wasn’t a service department; it was the engine. Cook flipped the hierarchy. Hardware engineering, operations, and finance called the shots (poorly; witness Luca Maestri famously rejecting calls to invest in AI early on which is why he's now sidelined). Design became reactive instead of directive. The Vision Pro launched as an impressive, but overpriced, underbaked curiosity. After billions spent, the Apple Car evaporated. True category-defining leaps simply did not happen.

Now comes John Ternus, a product person, a hardware guy who has spent his career shipping actual devices rather than optimizing margins. Early signals are encouraging: bringing trusted hardware lieutenants back into the fold and already embedding himself with the industrial design group. That is exactly the right instinct.

If Ternus moves quickly to restore Design to its rightful place at the apex of Apple’s decision-making, the company might finally escape the long, comfortable, lucrative mediocrity of the Cook era. Apple doesn’t need another fifteen years of safer, prettier, or just different iterations. It needs the return of products that make people stop, stare, and rethink what a computer in their pocket, on their wrist, or on their face can be.

The hardware engineer is about to become CEO. The question is whether he has the will — and the authority with Cook looming as Executive Chairman — to put Design back on top where Jobs left it. The next few years will tell us if Apple can innovate again… or if the iteration treadmill simply continues under a new CEO.

I’ve been told the school has a designated “prayer room” available for "authorized students" during specific times, including Sunrise (7:30–8:20 AM) and Dhuhr (1:30–3 PM), which align with Islamic prayer times.

So where are we at with the outrage over religion in schools?
