Be sure to read their post and fill out the form if you are a VRChat creator. I can appreciate VRChat for taking this seriously and looking at the issue from multiple angles
@BluVaderrr That's taking legitimate criticisms and turning them into hyperbole.
Future Trunks has a terrible ending, early Super had rough animation, and the ToP has too much padding. All fair criticisms.
But calling entire arcs “nothing burgers,” etc is just a vast exaggeration.
Es hermoso ver como los verdaderos creadores si esfuerzan para hacer un cambio en VRChat, me encantaría que el lado hispano se uniera pero se que no va a pasar ya que están infectados de IA...
This is a very well-made article that targets how we can learn to co-exist with each other, while addressing the elephant in the room.
I'd highly recommend giving the whole article a read, as it helps support the transparency we need to approach this topic.
This is going to be a long rant about VRChat and the head-to-head clash between Japanese and Western users regarding AI on the platform.
Having lived in Japan for a while, I’ve learned that there is a deep-seated cultural connection between IP holders and their assets.
A great case in point dates back to the late 1980s, when Sega and Nintendo worked together to ban video game rentals in Japan. This was completely different from the West, where rental stores allowed us to access dozens of titles without dropping $50 to $60 on a single game, which was a lifesaver for those of us who grew up working-class. (Nintendo tried to ban this method of renting in the USA btw)
This history ties directly into why many Japanese users are so adamant about protecting intellectual property. What puzzles me, however, is their apparent misunderstanding of how AI generates assets. Do they believe AI output appears out of thin air without relying on original sources? Or do they see a legal loophole that feels more acceptable to them than the Western concept of "fair use"?
I understand why people dislike gatekeeping, especially when AI can streamline world creation. But let’s not pretend that a lot of people aren't using AI purely out of laziness. While I support tools that foster creativity and help bring new ideas to VRChat, we can't ignore that AI relies heavily on pre-existing work. It raises a difficult question: is anything truly original anymore?
The blind enthusiasm some users have for AI is concerning. They overlook how visually unappealing many AI-generated thumbnails and worlds look, as well as the false advertising and lack of genuine artistic spirit.
I don’t want a war between creators, nor do I want a divide between Japan and the rest of the world over VRChat world or avatar creation. However, VRChat needs to take a firm, official stance.
Given Japan’s massive presence and influence on the platform, I suspect VRChat management is hesitating out of fear. They know key Japanese business partners could react negatively if the platform handles AI poorly. If the Western audience were larger and contributed as much to the platform's creation economy, the dynamic might be different, but it isn't.
These are just my initial thoughts. I plan to make a well-researched video essay on this topic soon. My goal is to keep VRChat in a positive light, explain their hesitation to take a stance, and celebrate creators, while still highlighting why AI shouldn't replace human creativity on such a meaningful platform.
AI definitely feels like a demon and in a metaphysical sense we've summoned a terrible power that will most likely manifest hell on earth for us if we don't do something to contain it. Hayao Miyazaki said it best. This technology is an insult to human life itself.
Solidarity. Support the human artists who spent countless hours pouring their hearts and souls into their worlds. This platform wouldn't be where it is without them.
I believe generative ai in vrchat will turn it into roblox. If youve played roblox yall should be well aware the low effort slop games purely meant to get engagement and robux from kids. This game already seems to wanna follow in roblox's footsteps, we should lead it away
