If you have an #AED, use it
➡️ Open their shirt & attach AED pads
➡️ AED will analyze rhythm & tell you if shock is needed (not all rhythms are shockable)
➡️ If shock is needed, ensure no one is touching the person & press “shock”
➡️ Resume CPR afterward

Our new walk-in clinic for children with viral illnesses opens today at 4:30 p.m. at McMaster Children’s Hospital. If your family doctor isn’t available, this is an excellent option for kids’ care. https://t.co/eY2OJVsS8y
Getting handover from my colleague before I take over for the week. “It’s all Flu A - the vaccinated kids are ok and going home, the unvaccinated ones are ++sick and getting admitted”
Pls get your kids the #flushot. 6mo and up.
Mask and wash your hands. 🙏🏼

1/8 We wanted to share a bit of a snapshot of what’s been happening at #CHEO as we put all hands of deck to tackle the unprecedented volumes of kids and youth needing urgent care this viral season.
"Despite the mass availability of the flu shot, the uptake is lower than what’s needed to effectively protect populations - particularly for older adults..."

Dr. Margaret Herridge's keynote address reflected on the importance of "patients & families, advocacy and community" over her inspiring career. Congratulations on this well-deserved award!
Dr Shelly Dev from @Sunnybrook has become a consistent voice on the importance of burnout in medicine. Her primary slide says it all.

More good news on sars-2 vaccines: they appear to prevent long covid (we've been waiting for answers to this question). A propensity matched cohort from the UK found that 2+ doses of vaccine decreased adjusted long covid risk by 41% (95% CI 31%-50%).
Seeing multiple EDs across the province closing represents nothing short of a crisis.
These EDs and ICUs were built for a reason and to imagine we are now closing them despite rising volumes and demands leaves me speechless.

The pandemic is not over but we do need to tailor our response, found @DrFahadRazak & @ArthurSlutsky.
🔑 takeaways:

Never have I had more friends, colleagues & acquaintances calling me for advice after their children brought home #COVID from school.
Kids are missing school.
Parents are missing work.
The vulnerable among us are at higher risk for exposure.
Masks should stay on in school.
New Yorker reports on the surge in Hong Kong hitting older people and what it portends for China. Reminder: 🇨🇦 needs a new & integrative COVID-19 vax strategy for the year ahead, but 3rd shots remain vital for older Canadians as BA2 spreads. https://t.co/6sxzdeA82c
Covid hospitalizations in Ontario last Saturday: 613
Today: 707
Higher than @COVIDSciOntario predictions.
Time to resist our biases towards optimism and the status quo.
Let's change behaviour and policy, both to save lives and to help ensure people can work, learn and play.
It appears we are at the very beginning of a spring COVID wave in Ontario. Wastewater signals from many parts of the province are up.
It is currently unclear how large this wave (or wavelet?) will be, but it would not be surprising to see a bump in hospitalizations soon.
