Safari Trophy hunting has two parts:
1. Removing problem animals
2. Funding conservation efforts

And with animals like Deer or Elk, you are making up for the reality that the first thing humans do when they move somewhere is kill all the top predators that had co-evolved breeding rates with their prey to maintain a stable ecosystem. If we stop hunting deer, and don't invite wolves to live next door to where our children play, the deer will eat everything they can reach.
