In Greek mythology, Helen of Troy, the daughter of Zeus and Leda, was said to be the most beautiful woman in the world, a beauty later immortalized as "the face that launched a thousand ships."
Diane Kruger as Helen in Troy (2004).
The Odyssey - 4/10
It's a slog for most of the film. Some beautiful cinematography, but that's it's only redeeming quality.
The sound mixing is horrendous, which sadly has become Nolan's calling card. The music was too overwhelming at points.
The modern dialogue took me out of the immersion, and didn't elevate the acting performances at all.
I didn't hate all of it, but honestly, I couldn't wait for it to be over.
Highlight- When Menelaus said - Helen of Troy was the face that maybe launched only 500 ships, not 1000. I legit laughed.
Well, we finally saw The Odyssey. After buying our tickets in advance and months of anticipation, my friends and I drove the four hours to the closest
theater showing it in 70mm. We were all excited and hoping for the best, but this was a big swing-and-miss by Christopher Nolan. Look, I get that it’s a “classic,” but The Odyssey is basically 3 hours of the longest, most pointless road trip in history while the wife sits at home weaving the same tapestry on repeat. The gods are petty drama queens, the monsters are random, and the whole thing seems like it was directed by a guy who really loved hearing himself talk
Half the movie is just people crying, sacrificing animals, or reciting their entire family trees. Ten years to get home? Bro, use Google Maps.
Skip it unless your professor is forcing you. 1/5 stars – Overhyped ancient snoozefest
Remember guys The Odyssey is a fictional story but because it’s European it has to be cast with everyone. But if any other story gets told that is equally as fictional, the same rules never apply do they?
The Odyssey movie is a deliberate psyop.
It is deliberately designed to rewrite Western history
To undermine Western culture
That is its only point- not entertainment.
Keep in mind: Corporate critics gave Rings of Slop an 84% rating on RT.
What we are seeing with the love bombing score on The Odyssey is pure propaganda.
The clips are already spreading online. Again, I'm going to go see it to give a proper judgement, but the way things are looking, this is going to go down as Nolan's worst film.
A manufactured consensus by the critic class means nothing. These same types of people are the ones who tried to say Mixtape was a 10/10. The value of critic reviews has forever been tarnished.
The movie is only being affirmed and glazed by critics because of the hunger of these losers to remain in the good graces of Hollywood, with a movie with as many large actors as this movie has. Nobody is buying this and, as always, the manufactured consensus is going to hurt more than help.
There's only one Greek cast member in the Odyssey. When Black Panther was made, Lupita Nyong'o praised it for drawing carefully from real African cultures and avoiding cultural misrepresentation.
Then they asked her to defend playing Helen of Troy and her answer was that it was a mythological story.
So was Wakanda.
When it came time to build that fictional space of Wakanda, fidelity was sacred. But when the myth was Greek suddenly we should all relax.
There are two rulebooks the left plays by. One for their protected cultures which are holy, and one for European civilization which should be considered open source.
