A new exhibition has opened at York Minster, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the devastating fire that started when lightning struck the roof of the South Transept on 9th July 1984.

“Out Of The Ashes” runs from 29 June 2024 until 1 June 2025.

We've been going through some of the images in our photo library recently and noticed some cropmarks at grid reference SJ 61978 09046 in Shropshire.
There doesn't seem to be anything on record.
There was a lot of Roman activity in the area. Might it have some connection to that?

In 1947/48 aerial photographs of the area around Whitton, North Lincs, taken by the RAF, showed earthworks in this field. It is thought that the earthworks may have been the site of a WW2 searchlight battery. These crop marks may be an indication of their original position.

Site of the extensive, high status Anglo-Saxon settlement at Flixborough, North Lincolnshire. Excavated between 1989 and 1991. Approximately 40 buildings were discovered. Over 10,000 recorded finds including evidence for textile-manufacture and literacy. Possible nunnery.
