Mission driven activist project that provides data about @Airbnb's impact on residential communities: by @murrayscox since ‘15 now a project of the @hjdatalab
750,000 homes across the country are ready to build, and stuck without final funding.
They've cleared the hurdles. They just need the last dollars to break ground.
Today, we're doing something about it. Introducing the Airbnb Housing Accelerator. 🧵
Airbnb tried to teach San Diego politicians a lesson by throwing at least $672,198 into opposing a single Airbnb investor tax in San Diego.
This was 1/4 of ALL lobbying spending since 2019.

The City must collect the potential $210 million in fines between these 11 locations.
These 11 violators cheat the City (and its residents) by using up resources and services they don't properly pay into.

Thank you, Secret Los Angeles, for covering the VRO. A $50 million one-time prepayment doesn't make sense if the city can collect $47 per month from illegal "ghost hotels" and unlawful corporate operators. The math is not mathing.

Don't forget the 16 council members accepted funding from @airbnb's super PAC: Affordable NY!
5 of which are sponsoring Intro 879:
Narcisse, Riley, Feliz, Brooks-Powers, Louis.

Grand total: $796,492.
Who says NYC is not pay-to-play?
Right @naterotman?
"Una fiscalitat turstica per mantenir el turisme?"
O per fer-lo créixer amb reg amb diners públics?
Tot i el 25% x habitatge, la forta pujada de la taxa turística fa que la inversió pública en promoció pugi molt

What @Airbnb once called a “sharing economy” is now a global, highly commercialised industry.

A new global report from shows how short-term rentals are reshaping housing worldwide.
Across 224 countries, @Airbnb has shifted from “home sharing” to a system of commercialised, unhosted rentals, a true global threat to housing.

There are flyers going around LA asking you to "Save Our Services." What they don't say: Airbnb is funding the campaign.
What Airbnb actually wants is to legalize thousands of new vacation rentals - homes & apartments that would be permanently pulled off the residential market.
@naterotman@CrainsNewYork New York City already allows short-term renting. These long standing laws protect housing yet allow a small number of guests to stay in your own home.
No new laws are needed for one-off events like the Olympics.

The only policy failure here is how basic @Airbnb’s argument is: Rents up + short-term rentals down = Bad (and always blame hotels). An AI policy bot would do better.
Two years ago @NYHTC convinced NYC Council to kick short-term rentals out of Manhattan. Rents are now the highest in history (as are hotel prices). @airbnb#nyc@NYCCouncil@NYCMayor
And also, let's not forget the City of LA has sued @Airbnb, for price gouging during their devastating fires, and for Airbnb's fake verification system with "verified" hosts using fake names and made-up addresses. https://t.co/xqcRSLXuYz
It's not @Airbnb vs Hotels, it's Airbnb vs Housing. Their "hosts" take housing units off the housing market, making them available to tourists instead of long-term locals. NYC, by killing Intro 948B, said no to Airbnb, and yes to housing, yet again. https://t.co/XNCG38uIpm
Can’t afford to visit New York city for Christmas? Blame the city government. “Meanwhile, "gross profitability in this market [hotels] grew 47.1 percent from 2022 [to 2023], the highest among the top 25 U.S. hotel markets,"” #nyc https://t.co/GSplIlgyPu
But on hotel prices... @Airbnb and @naterotman: price gouge much? "Demand surges for Airbnbs during the World Cup in L.A., with prices jumping 56%" by @latimes. https://t.co/wWY2E9lHBn
