Many of the things we argue about in the design community are so trivial that we don���t even realize how much they distract from the real issues affecting the industry.

The deeper problem is attitude: pride embedded in how we think and operate, quietly shaping the way we work.

And the truth is, too many subpar designers are being carried by skill, while their character holds them back.

Some of you simply lack basic decency. You don’t know how to communicate. You don’t know how to receive correction; or even give it. There’s no openness to learning; it’s either your way or the highway. There’s a lack of honesty, of humility, of simple human decency. Stubbornness thrives, even in the presence of clear ignorance.

These things may seem small, but they have real consequences. They affect how we land roles, how we retain them, and whether we’re trusted enough to be referred for opportunities.

We need to change. We need to do better.
