80% of ppl don't have real beliefs, they have tribes; if tribe leaders change position, so do they. Trump proved this. That is the biggest weakness of democracy. Government should balance disenfranchising tribals enough to prevent enshittification, while avoiding authoritarianism

Actions motivated by good intentions are still evil if those actions don't result in good outcomes. Good-intentioned people far too often either lack the intellectual honesty, or the intellectual capacity to assess the likely or actual outcome of their good-intentioned actions.

I could care less about Biden pardoning his son given how many crooks much worse Trump has pardoned and will continue to pardon. Doesn't mean Biden did right, but whining about Biden pardoning Hunter is like wining about a splinter when your arm just got cut off.

Which party wins is just a game of hot potato. Whichever party is in control when completely unrelated economics aren't great in the year up to the election will lose. People are stupid and blame the current party, even if that party's policies were unrelated to the downturn.

It seems as though we need activists to bring change, yet the activist mentality often requires a level of religious-level confidence in your beliefs that means you would not be able to discern if you are actually on the right side of history/rationality.
