A 19-year-old gunman forced his way into Westwood Hills Elementary School in Waynesboro, Virginia, on September 2, shooting and wounding a staff member before taking his own life, according to police.
The staff member was treated and released from hospital. No children were harmed, and the motive remains under investigation.

A deadly stabbing in New York’s Times Square left a 32-year-old woman dead and a 68-year-old man injured.
Police said the suspect refused repeated orders to drop two knives and continued advancing toward officers after Tasers failed. She was then shot and later died.
The incident remains under investigation.
