Exciting discussions at the Technical workshop to develop an ASEAN tool kit for tropical #peatland GHG and C stocks monitoring here in Malaysia. This is part of the @FCDOGovUK funded #Encore project. Great seeing so many regional stockholders bringing ideas . @LJMU_BES@LJMU
Exciting New paper out considering shifts in tropical #peat microbial communities and functional groups post- fires and implications to nutrient availability. Delighted to see this paper untangle some of the functional processes. @DrTELS@LJMU_BES https://t.co/mXdvT5T3Tu
Attention all tropical peat scientists!! There will be a dedicated tropical peatland session at EGU2026. Deadline for abstract submissions 15 Jan 26. Further info: https://t.co/zcYWyDSbYp
Wetlands *are* infrastructure & usually much cheaper & more effective than the concrete grey infrastructure that so-called Yimbys are always asking for.
LFG have a good double act here: lobby the government to give developers permission to build on wetlands, and then lobby the government for that sweet sweet taxpayers cash to build ‘infrastructure’ to do the work the wetlands used to do (providing clean water, stopping flooding, sequestering carbon etc) for free!
Excited to be off to Malaysia and Philippines for the EnCore project with @GECtalks. For carbon stocks and ghg assessments in some established and some previously unstudied tropical #peat sites with @DrTELS and @peatblogger.
Delighted to be part of today's launch of the new #peatland national nature reserve-great work
@NaturalEngland@Lancswildlife and everyone else involved.
proud that @ljmu in partnership continue to support this progress via joint research https://t.co/YUsQH7g6D5
No advert out yet, but I will be recruiting a 2yr postdoc, start date autumn 2025, at @livunigeog soon. Lowland and upland peatlands, GHGs, DOM and water chemistry. Plenty of fieldwork. Feel free to drop me a DM or email if you might be interested, and please spread the word.
All set and on my way to Vienna for #EGU2025. @Inter_PEAT presenting on wetter #peat farming emissions twice, tropical peat agriculture drain emissions, 14c dating of emissions during restoration of peat. Super excited. See you all there! @longdenmik@peatblogger@MariaNolanEco
Exciting PDRA monitoring #GHG on wetter agriculture and #paludiculture trails on #peat as part of large international #EUHorizon project, based at #MMU.

2. Biochar Interventions to Improve Soil Health Under Oil Palm : Ensuring Agronomic and Environmental Sustainability of the Fastest Expanding Equatorial Crop- with me, Paul Williams (QUB), @tomsizmur (Reading) and Stephanie Evers @Inter_PEAT (LJMU)- https://t.co/MeqHJ0pSQG
Presenting our progress made in lowland peat projects at @defra lowland peat forum with @longdenmik and everyone from the peat team at @Lancswildlife. Fantastic to see everyone's effort, start discussions and help develop future national policy directions. @LJMUImpact @LJMU_BES
PDRA1 will join my carbon biogeochemistry group, and lead efforts to establish the current and future physical capacity of land in the case study regions to contribute to net zero, and prioritise areas for peatland restoration. Full details here - https://t.co/G2iaTvqL5R 2/2
Delighted to be successful in getting @LJMU VC scholarship funding for a new PhD to start in Feb on soil/plant dynamics within #paludiculture and #wetterfarming trials here in the NW lowland #peatlands. Here's to some exciting results and @LJMUImpact. @DrRJWebster@Lancswildlife
Super proud of Marshall with his award winning research considering the functional impact of peat compaction in oil palm plantations.. https://t.co/IKodEsl0Vn
A wet autumnal morning 🐑🌧️We have kindly been hosted by Low Bridge End farm as we explore freshwater sampling techniques & learn about green farming + land management strategies. @LJMU@LJMU_BES @LuciaGalvezBrav #Wildlife#Conservation
We are advertising! PDRA assessing the GHG emissions associated with #wetterfarming / #paludiculture of lowland #peat soils in NW UK. Post will work on the @UK_CEH-led lowland peatlands 3 project funded by @DefraGovUK. Come join us in @LJMU_BES https://t.co/j2u5EvXkwX
