Internews joined partners in marking the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI). The day was commemorated at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, on 29th Sep 2025.
This year’s global theme “Ensuring Access to Environmental Information in the digital age”, is relevant to Internews previous work on training journalists on climate and environmental reporting strengthening their capacity to counter climate disinformation.
The policy hackathon provides an opportunity for local human rights and civil society organizations to foster collaborations, develop innovative strategies and policy solutions on safeguarding the internet space, especially for women, children, youth and other marginalized groups
Internews, UNESCO, KICTANet, Communication Authority hosted a 4-day workshop earlier this month in Mombasa for 50 Digital Rights stakeholders on tackling online threats, safeguarding freedom of expressions and fostering safer, inclusive digital spaces.

In addition, KenSafeSpace hosted a Policy Hackathon where 17 teams were shortlisted and pitched their innovative solutions to a panel of 3 judges. The hackathon crowned Policy Action Initiative as the winner, with Seya Youth Organization and Y+ Kenya as runners up.
