For those with happy memories of #InterRail journeys and #backpacking rail adventures around Europe, we re-enact classic routes via tweets! Because, why not?!
We occasionally tweet images of locations we're referencing. We always credit where possible and try our best to use free images.
But if we've inadvertently used your image and you'd rather we didn't, please let us know 😊
It's 7:21pm and we've arrived at our final destination, #Madrid Puerta de Atocha!
We set off at 7:15am, 12hrs 6mins ago.
This bustling station is one of the busiest train stations in #Spain and home to a beautiful tropical garden.
Thank you for joining us on this journey!
This long journey from #Paris in France to #Madrid in Spain is now nearing an end, it's been quite a (high-speed) trek!
Our penultimate stop at 6:46pm is #Guadalajara, a historic city located in the #CastileLaMancha region known for its beautiful palaces and gardens.
As we head towards #Madrid, we'll be stop at #Zaragoza Delicias at 5:42pm
A station known for its futuristic design and as a gateway to the #Pyrenees for those travelling north.
Whilst we actually still have a while to go, being so far from #Paris it now feels like we're almost there!
Our next stop is #Barcelona Sants, the largest train station in #Catalonia and a hub for trains connecting various European cities.
We pull in at 3:32pm.
Continuing on through #Spain 🇪🇸, next up is #Girona, a beautiful city known for its colourful houses, medieval walls, and stunning Gothic cathedral.
We arrive at 2:30pm.
Since our last stop, we have finally crossed the border from #France 🇫🇷 into #Spain 🇪🇸
Now, at 2:03pm, our journey briefly stops at Figueres Vilafant, a station located in the hometown of #SalvadorDalí and home to the Dalí Theatre-Museum.
The journey now heads into the mountains (more through than over them).
As we head towards #Spain, our next stop is #Perpignan at 1:16pm
A charming town with a mix of #Catalan and French cultures and a gateway to the #Pyrenees.
Stops are more frequent at this stage of the journey and we rarely hit top speed on this stretch.
Our next stop at 11:46am is #Montpellier Saint-Roch, a station located in the heart of the city and known for its beautiful architecture and vibrant atmosphere.
Just over an hour later at 11:12am, we arrive next at Nîmes station.
#Nimes is a city famous for its well-preserved Roman buildings, including the impressive Arena of #Nîmes.
Our journey continues to Valence TGV, a high-speed train station located in the Rhône Valley known for its scenic vineyards.
We pull in at 11:10am this morning and are now closer to #Spain 🇪🇸 than #Paris.
Our first stop is a surprisingly long distance from #Paris in #Lyon.
The station, Lyon Part-Dieu, is a modern transportation hub known for its impressive glass roof and design by architect Santiago Calatrava.
We arrive at 9:10am local time.
Welcome aboard our journey from #Paris to #Madrid!
Our starting point to board our high speed train is Paris Gare de Lyon, a beautiful station built for the World's Fair in 1900.
We depart at 9am and travel through Paris slowly as the high speed lines don't begin right away.
❓QUESTION OF THE DAY❓
Did you actually know the letters that come after numbers (21st, 62nd, 103rd) are simply the last two letters of the words "First", "Second" and "Third"?
Yes it's stupendously obvious, but did you consciously know that? (Be honest!)

At 20:24 we pull into Roma Tiburtina station. #Rome's second largest station (after #Roma Termini).
We set off from #Paris 12hrs 5 mins ago, passed through #France, #Switzerland and #Italy all whist crossing the #Alps.
From the #RightBank to the banks of the #Tiber in one day.
As the final step of this fourth leg of our rail journey from #Paris to #Rome still has 90 mins to go, here are some stats.
#ParisGaredeLyon to #Roma Tiburtina is 1,104km 'as the crow flies'. 1,425km by car. On the train it's a 20 stop journey, through 3 countries over 4 legs.
45mins after leaving #Bologna we reach our penultimate stop of the entire journey, #Firenze's Santa Maria Novella station.
Rebuilt in the 1930's, it's a classic Italian #modernist station.
We love stations like this!
But we can't stay, our destination, #Rome, is 90 mins away!
About half an hour after leaving #ReggioEmilia we pull into the station of one of #Italy's great cities, #Bologna.
Birthplace of #bolognese and the oldest university in the Western World, @Unibo.
The train station has been remodelled and rebuilt extensively in recent years.
The @LeFrecce train we are on is taking us to #Rome's Tiburtina station. However, the train itself is headed all the way down to southern #Italy and #Napoli.
Our first stop is #ReggioEmilia, 160km further south, 44 minutes after departing from #Milan.
A lovely little place!
At 16:58 our @LeFrecce (#Trenitalia) high-speed train departs #Milano Centrale on our fourth and final leg of the journey from #Paris to Rome.
We left at 08:17am (Paris time) this morning and we have this 3.5hr leg left to do with our ETA in #Italy's capital 20:24 (Rome time).
