My Dad's anniversary. All those nights I'd sneak down from bed & he'd tell me his own particular history of the world between drinks. S. Africa, Palestine, Che Geuvera, Ireland. He told me things he never told his priest. His republicanism lives through me. It's his gift.
@EamonnMallie @NOALIBISBOOKS 'Where there is sorrow there is holy ground'.
I will be using it though it pains me for a beloved Aunt this Christmas, who doesn't have long.
@EamonnMallie @NOALIBISBOOKS Great idea for present Eamonn thank you. Do you know this one :
'I left the south I travelled north, I got confused I killed a horse I can't help the way I feel'.??
@EamonnMallie @NOALIBISBOOKS Every Yr, do you get this to? Someone you know always dies. And in threes (if your mum is to be believed). I never knew what to put in the mass card. Then I read Oscar Wilde's letters from prison. It wasn't highlighted so it feels special to me bc I found it.
@EamonnMallie @NOALIBISBOOKS I wish I was as Poetry literate as you Eamonn. It must be a great gift. No matter what the situation you have a quote ready to go. Especially when someone needs comfort.
@Arsenal@freddie Remember his arrogance scoring in his debut against Utd. When we weren't afraid of anyone. Long time ago. Some present players aren't fit to wear that same shirt.
@KenReid_utv @EamonnMallie Was thinking there Ken how great it was coming home from Uni at Christmas. You felt taller (?). Like you were free from the small mindset at home. Paying full price at the local & not 60p for watered down pints.
It was great coming home from Uni at Christmas. Shaking your head at the bar bc it wasn't 60p a pint. Dancing to The Smiths who you hated b4. Belfast. Leather jacket.
@KenReid_utv @EamonnMallie I remember it had a fantastic library. John McCarthy went there too as it was later named in his honour. Humberside Uni just next door meant there was plenty of partying. Though our Uni bar was much better.
