Insolvencies surge 20% in Ontario as mortgage renewals and job losses take their toll.

- Total Personal Insolvencies: 34,588 Canadians filed for insolvency in Q3, up 13.5% year-over-year.

- Ontario's Surge: 13,140 insolvency filings in Ontario, a 20.2% increase.

- Business Insolvencies: Up 16.2% nationwide, with Ontario seeing a staggering 40.2% rise.

- Interest Rates & Mortgages: Despite 4 rate cuts by the Bank of Canada this year, interest rates remain high, with the overnight rate at 3.75%.

- Mortgage Renewal Crisis: Nearly 50% of mortgage holders set to renew in 2024 face rates double what they secured in 2020-2021.

- Unemployment: Rising to 6.5% in October 2024, up from 4.9% in July 2022.

- Inflation Trends: Inflation down to 1.6% in September, following a peak of 8.1% in June 2022.

Whether today is the first day that purchasers get the keys or not, Aqualuna will fill up with hundreds of new residents in the coming months. We've featured plenty of great shots of this eye-catching building over the last couple years of its construction, and we could have posted many more — its uniquely flowing lines and warm copper hue have kept our Forum contributors enthralled at every visit — and it's inevitable that we will be posting more of this building as the days progress.
