Registered charity helping children and young people with SEND get the education they are entitled to by law.
We monitor this account in working hours.
Today, we launch the #SaveOurChildrensRights joint campaign. Govt plans could remove EHC plans and weaken legal rights for children with SEND. We can’t let that happen. The law isn’t the problem - failure to follow it is. Join the campaign 👇https://t.co/NENSAnHHal
New blog post on local scrutiny of SEND provision - are elected councillors well enough prepared to ask the right questions? Our policy team argue that councillors should be aiming for accuracy not 'appreciation'. https://t.co/dPNqf8aTgl
We were incredibly grateful to secure the expertise and support of Roisin Swords-Kieley @MatrixChambers in representing the respondent parent in this appeal to the Upper Tribunal.

A legal challenge has been issued against the Government’s SEND reform consultation. The challenge highlights concerns about proposed changes to EHC plans, limits on access to and enforceability of specialist provision, and significant changes to the powers of the SEND Tribunal and rights of appeal - which are all concerns we share at IPSEA.
We will be following the progress of this legal challenge very closely, given the significance of the proposals currently being consulted on and the impact these would have on the legal rights of children and young people with SEND.

Our CEO writes in @SchoolsWeek today about why SEND reforms must strengthen legal rights, not weaken them. "When systems fail, it is enforceable rights, and not aspirations, that allow children and young people to secure the support they need."

At IPSEA, we remain committed to defending every child and young person’s right to an education that meets their individual needs. We will continue to analyse the detail and share further thoughts as soon as we can. 6/6
There’s a lot to take in from the Schools White Paper – and much that we are concerned about.
We’re still analysing the proposals in full, and will be publishing a full response shortly. For now, here are some of our early observations. 1/6
Placement rights appear fundamentally changed and weakened, and the Tribunal’s powers to order an appropriate placement would be removed. The matters which can be appealed and the orders the Tribunal can make also appear to be fundamentally changed. 5/6
