In the months since I've displayed the Pride flag in my profile, it's been rather amusing to see how much of my hate mail indicates that they think I'm gay because of my support for the LGTBQ community.

First, I don't give two shits whether they think I'm straight, gay..bi, trans etc. I just don't care.

What I do care about, is that my wife and kids see that even though I had grown up surronded by Republicans in a rural setting, it didn't sentence me to a life long belief of thinking people who have different sexual beliefs, orientation, attractions than me...were "flawed," or deserving of being treated like shit.

I know there are a hell of a lot more "straight" men and women out there who feel like I do....but...don't speak up/out and voice their support of the LGTBQ community. If this applies to you....I ask that you consider what I've written...and how you may...or may not...engage going forward.

I think the massive numbers in the non-LGTBQ population wield a hell of a lot of leverage in making sure that the world knows it's NOT okay to treat these men, women and children like second class citizens. We just aren't using it to the degree that we should be.
