Cape Hatteras National Seashore staff worked several hours today to clean up debris from last night’s house collapse in Buxton. A team of 25 National Park Service employees, supported by heavy equipment, filled multiple dumpsters with debris as part of an organized cleanup effort.
They were joined by 20 members of the N.C. Beach Buggy Association and other local anglers, bringing the total cleanup crew to about 45 people working for several hours together across the impacted shoreline. The Seashore extends sincere thanks to its volunteer partners, including the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association and the Buxton Civic Association, whose support and coordination helped tackle debris scattered across beaches and other areas.
The Seashore also thanks Dare County for providing and transporting the dumpsters that made today’s progress possible.
Cleanup operations will continue as teams address smaller debris in the coming days. The Seashore appreciates the community’s patience as it works to reopen the affected beach areas as soon as conditions allow.
Capital Weather Gang, the weather blog that has been a part of the Washington Post for almost 20 years, is becoming an independent site and rebranding as Capital Weather.
Per a note to WaPo staff today, the site will still contribute to WaPo during major weather events.

@FlyAwayOGlory@IcyVert I honestly think there's more to the unspoken drama. We saw just a little with Casty. Perhaps there's more that we weren't privy to. Either way, the vibes from "I ride with Philly Rob" were certainly gone.
I created a weather web app dedicated to #Asheville. Check it out! https://t.co/1tU0ENHTUl
I incorporated drought, hiking, my Substack newsletter, and a Bluesky-like news feed.
What was once shaping up to be a fairly productive stretch of rainfall across western North Carolina has once again fallen short. Meanwhile another very warm and mostly dry stretch looming by this weekend. https://t.co/KL8EXYutFB
Hard to believe we're in a upper air shallow trough regime here across the Southeast. Yes we've seen some rain - 0.90" at my house since May 1 - but you'd think we would have been able to squeeze out some more. Now medium range is showing an upper ridge taking hold.
Working with AI chat bots (in my case designing a weather app) is like crack for the ADHD brain. Each time you come to some sort of conclusion or resolution, the chat bot offers more ideas or upgrades. Instead of just being content, the bot leads you down infinite pathways. 🤯
@AntSanPhilly@Bob_Wankel I'm going through a junk drawer at home and ran into this @Topps Phillies team card. A nice reminder that it has been far worse. Seriously, who are these guys? 😂 (2017)
So much respect for the way the #Celtics approached this entire season. Never gave an inch, Jalen Brown MVP level, Jayson Tatum coming back so fast. It ends well before they wanted, but they did it right this year.
Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid are the 3rd duo in NBA history to each have 25 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in a Game 7:
