The Government has officially unveiled Phase 2 of the Road Safety Strategy, covering the years 2025–2027. Unlike the more structured Phase 1 (2021–2024), this phase has dropped specific timelines for completing actions.

In the same week Road Safety Strategy Phase 2 2025-2027 was launched we hear of delays in implementing safe speeds in towns and villages across Ireland.
Great reporting from @DublinInquirer .

Disappointing to see that speed limit reductions for towns and villages will now be delayed.

Increasing driver training in Ireland will have a significant impact on reducing young road fatalities in Ireland.
Thank You @LDSPIreland for highlighting this.
@SeanCanney
It was an honour to visit Leinster House on Wednesday representing our non profit organisation @LDSPIreland.
We really appreciate the time @SeanCanney and his colleagues gave to listen to our recommendations for making the learning to drive process more accessible in Ireland.
Thank you to @SeanCanney for sharing his time to meet us in Leinster House this morning.
We talked about making the learning to drive process more accessible in Ireland.

The Grade 1 marks on the driving test give the learner drivers a chance not to be penalised for minor errors, they are a valuable part of the driving test feedback.
The Road Safety Authority is planning on removing Grade 1 marks from the driving test marking sheet.
For nervous or anxious students we feel this makes the driving test process a more negative experience.
What are your thoughts?
@LDSPIreland All feedback is relevant on a driving test and just because it does not affect the overall result does not mean it cannot help the driving test candidate improve driving skills.
Another recommendation for the Road Safety Strategy 2025-2027.
Fines for road traffic violations across the world are used to fund road safety projects and charities. This should be done here in Ireland.

Having a theory test before you sit into a car makes no sense.
The theory test should take place while you have your driving lessons so you can understand the theory in relation to driving a car.
