Time to talk.

A year and a half ago we said the App would be free. We said it, we meant it, and we're not gonna act like we didn't. So let me explain why it isn't.

Back then the app was an idea. Since then we spent a full year building it, and way longer than planned. We had an internal conflict in the company that slowed everything down for months. I spoke about it a few months ago, it's about to be resolved, but it's part of why the app came out later than I wanted.

The other reason is money, and I'd rather give you the real numbers than a vague "it costs a lot". Ads are about 5% of what we make. We couldn't pay 1 developer with ads only atm. Premium is the rest, and over the past year the app became the number 1 reason people take Premium. If we put the app out for free, Premium lose almost all its point, and we wouldn't have lasted 2 months. Not "it would have been hard", I mean we would have literally shut down

Our ambition has always been to build the best LoL app ever made. When it became clear the app would have to be part of Premium, it just wasn't good enough yet to ask anyone to pay for it. So I focused on making it good instead of talking about it. I stayed quiet too long.

What I did wrong is that I let an old "it'll be free" idea sit there for a year and a half without ever coming back to say "here's what changed". You should have heard it from me and not discovered it on launch day. That's on me and I'm sorry for that

About the blocks. Since Saturday a lot of the messages I got weren't criticism anymore, they were insults and harassment aimed at me. That's not acceptable, and it will never be the way to get an answer. Criticism, even harsh, I'll always take and respond to. Insults and harassment get blocked instantly

Now, for those of you who paid for the premium BETA and feel let down: every month you paid becomes a free month of Premium, app included. You helped build this thing. So you get it longer. (How to claim in comments)

Everyone subscribed 3 months or more also gets 2 free month codes on Sunday, one for you, one to give away. And your premium price doesn't move, ever, even if ur subscription is not active anymore.

One last thing. DPM is my whole life. It's been that way for years and it's not gonna change. I'm sick about having made a mistake like this, I'm angry at myself, and I'll probably stay angry for a while. But I want you to know that I'll keep dedicating everything I have to this project, every single day, like I always did.

It wasn’t harder but there were differences. Counter jungling was more punishing because you could leave one small monster to prevent the camp from respawning. Conservation was a cool system that rewarded a balance of clearing / ganking. Camps hit harder and mana was a problem. Mid laners would need you to get blue buff to 1 hp then they’d last hit it. You’d usually be responsible for buying aegis/bulwark so your team doesn’t get one shot by AP champs. There were no jungle timers for dragon, baron, or jungle camps, if you didn’t see them die then you wouldn’t know when they’ll respawn.
