@SaraTempleton_ I won’t be the first to say this, but Mastodon is great, especially on a well-managed instance like Cloud Island. It’s big enough now to have plenty of urbanist connections, and much of NZ Twitter is already there.
Nō reira, Mastodon Mastodon Mastodon.
@norightturnnz @gtiso@ShakingStick For sure, and Google has demonstrated with Google Reader that you can dominate the userbase for an open standard like RSS to the point that people think you’re the only way to use it. They’re getting close to doing the same for email.
@mistertodd I’m enjoying Mastodon. Somewhat like Twitter, but an open standard, and federated so you have a local neighbourhood with a moderator. Ours says good morning every day.
@Ajkiwi I’ve been enjoying Mastodon. Short messages like Twitter, but decentralised so you have a local neighbourhood with its own admin and policies. It’s my main social media now.
@SaraTempleton_ A bit abstract, but I think there remains a pervasive assumption that climate response is a cost to be minimised instead of an opportunity to be maximised. Whereas some other areas of spending (*cough* stadium *cough*) are assumed to be all upside.
@AitkesAndPains@thefutureisrail You can easily see the Heathcote platform from Station Road, and the suburb is designed around it with streets converging on the entrance. Close to the school and just waiting to be restored. The tracks are actively used for freight to and from Lyttelton Port.
@Ajkiwi The bigots, as usual, shift around between the positions, sometimes in the middle of a sentence. This makes it effectively impossible to have any reasonable public discourse, and forces everyone to just pick a side. 3/3
@Ajkiwi There are some sensible people who take only the third position. They agree that change is necessary, and have various proposals for solving the same problems with more decentralised structures. 2/n
