The Benin artistic civilization, an ancient wonder that marvel Europe when it was looted from Benin kingdom in the 19th century, changing and reshaping how europeans saw the continent of Africa.

To understand why how and why the Benin bronzes are in europe today, boils down to colonization and forceful entry into Benin. If the empire was civilized as 15th to early 18th european explorers documented it is, then it should be impossible to think it would allow it sovereignty be determined by traders or officers, whom they have interacted with for more than 400yrs.

The Benin wall, Architecture, Fabric, Court system, Guild system, are some of the testament of how great Benin society was before the 1897 tragic event.
