Tax wastage in Scotland:
Jawdropping Sunday Times investigation I'm looking forward to covering on @TimesRadio Breakfast tomorrow. Most staggering stat is the NHS Highland worker receiving their full salary / benefits for 17 YEARS despite not having a specific job anymore...
https://t.co/qzqUAVwuj5
@OllyMann@TimesRadio £27m? That we know about? Meanwhile disrepair, downgrade of services here Highlands. Maternity patients travelling two hours to give birth? Other patients have to travel further South to get treatment? Is this the top of the public sector crisis?
Put up tax rates too much, and the amount collected goes down
Leftists don’t understand this and think you can just keep putting taxes up and keep getting more money
You can’t. People leave. Don’t invest, Don’t bother working or work less
Labour doesn’t realise this
I was in tears yesterday talking to Leonard Moss. He was a 22–year-old nurse who offered to help when a tip fell on a school in Aberfan killing 116 children.
Leonard washed the children’s faces “so their mum and dad could give them a kiss goodbye”. Heartbreaking.
Aberfan was a man-made disaster. Coal production mattered more than safety. The National Coal Board gambled with children’s lives - and lost.
There were no criminal prosecutions. Zero accountability for killing 116 mixed infants - we see the same incompetence and villainy still thriving today in the Post Office scandal, rape gangs, infected blood, maternity deaths, Nottingham murders.
Many in the village had survivor’s guilt - only the guilty men didn’t suffer guilt.
Ordinary men and women, despised and treated appallingly by the state - £50 compensation per child? - were responsible for many acts of quiet heroism on that darkest of days.
Read about it here. 👇
The horror of Aberfan will never die, but neither will the humanity https://t.co/iGaqVf5fto
1/🚨Well, this is awkward. Very awkward. If Scotland had voted yes in 2014, the SNP’s triple lock commitment applied only for the first term of an independent parliament. Nicola Sturgeon was unambiguous about this in the Scottish Parliament (clip is from 26th November 2013).
Not one person at the SNP conference sounded a single word of caution about this. Even Plaid Cymru and the Lib Dems have more of a spine. The party is utterly intellectually adrift.
Too many Scots can't get a place in a Scottish university despite having the grades because there aren't enough places available.
Instead of funding more places, the SNP has spent thousands sending kids to Ireland instead.
Thanks to @Mike_Blackley for running this piece. 👇
This is just not true. As soon as I became foreign secretary I asked the security services the same question and they replied that there was no evidence of any successful interference in the 2016 referendum, by Russia or any other power.
Either the security services have changed their view - which would be very odd - or Burnham is lying about what he has been told. After all Starmer was in power for two years and had access to exactly the same information.

We have just published FOI evidence of almost 100 sexual offences at Scottish swimming pools and leisure centres overwhelmingly against females, overwhelmingly in mixed-sex changing.
Now the @NSPCC has dropped the rule that staff supervising children changing should be the same sex as the children.
Safeguarding is not optional.
Girls are entitled to privacy from adult males when they get changed. The NSPCC are failing them. This is a massive safeguarding fail.

Last night at a packed roundtable event sponsored by @TessWhite4NE we launched our Our latest report which focuses on sexual assaults in our Scottish hospitals, How safe are our Scottish hospitals? The concerning extent of sexual assaults and rapes in Scottish hospitals 2019-2024. The report highlights that NHS boards and private hospitals are failing to safeguard women and girls.
Between 2019 and 2024, across 57 hospitals 288 sexual assaults including rapes were reported. 163 of these assaults occurred on hospital wards.

Today we published our report: Sex offending at Scottish leisure centres.
It exists because our members did the unglamorous voluntary work. FOIs. Cross-checking. Reading returns line by line. Mapping which centres still have single-sex changing and which do not.
Big thanks to everyone who contributed
Our report authors Carolyn Brown @cbbroony and Mary Howden @MaryHowden
The WRN leisure centre FOI research team: Diane Dougan, Christine Lowden, Joanna McCormick, Morag Nicoll, Mireille Pouget, Lucy Powls, Carol Vallance, and the member who asked not to be named.
@TracyEdwardsMBE and @TessWhiteUK for all your support
Lisa Thompson for typesetting and graphs.
@PoliceScotland for responding to the Freedom of Information requests this report is built on. The data is now a matter of public record.
@ladymcbeth2 and @Sunday_Post for putting the findings in front of the country this morning as part of #ItsTime
