A Guardian of Trust: Remembering Rosemary Koech

Some people occupy positions.
Others leave footprints.

Rosemary Koech was one of those rare people who left footprints.

To many, she was the Head of Data Protection at KCB Group. To others, she was an award-winning voice in data protection and privacy, a trainer, a mentor and a respected professional.

But to those of us who had the privilege of learning from her, Rosemary was much more than a title or a list of accolades.

She was passionate about what she did.

She understood that data protection was never merely about policies, compliance, regulations or controls. At its heart, it was about people—their dignity, their trust, their privacy and their right to have their information treated with care.

And she had a gift for making others understand that too.

As one of our trainers, Rosemary did not simply deliver content. She transferred conviction. You could feel her passion when she spoke. She made you appreciate why the work mattered, why the details mattered, and why those of us entrusted with protecting personal information carry a responsibility much bigger than our job descriptions.

That is the kind of professional who does not simply teach a subject.

She helps shape a profession.

Her many recognitions and awards were a reflection of her excellence, but perhaps her greatest legacy will not be found on a certificate or trophy. It will be found in the people she trained, the professionals she mentored, the organisations she influenced, and the standards she helped raise.

Every time a data protection professional insists on doing things the right way, every time someone's privacy is protected because someone remembered what Rosemary taught them, a part of her work continues.

That is legacy.

At ISACA Kenya, we are deeply grateful that our paths crossed with hers. We were privileged to have Rosemary share her knowledge, experience and passion with our community. She gave generously of herself to the work, and through that generosity, she touched many lives.

The data protection and privacy community has lost a formidable professional.

We have lost a teacher.

We have lost a mentor.

We have lost a passionate advocate for privacy and responsible stewardship of information.

But we have not lost her impact.

Rosemary may have left the room, but the lessons she taught in it remain.

May her family find comfort in knowing that her life mattered far beyond the people closest to her. She contributed to something bigger than herself, and the profession she served is better because she was part of it.

Rest well, Rosemary.

May the work of your hands continue to speak.
May the people you taught carry your light forward.
And may the legacy you built in protecting the privacy and dignity of others never be forgotten.

Farewell, Rosemary Koech.
