In the east, you call me wren,
my hair is lantern-lit
your fingers god-like braiding time
into my vignette.
We breathe as wind skimming onyx waters, a sentient kiss without measure.
There are no jealous storms, only miles of savannah lifting its skirt to a blue moon.

I spent my childhood sitting under her branches, braiding wildflowers to hang on her needles as high as I could reach;
She spent her treehood dropping beetles onto my head, offering sap and a place away from the world when I needed a safe spot for a secluded catharsis.

we dream of haiku days
abandoned before our breaths could catch
to wonder where the meaning lay
now we feel the pull of verse
where rhythm knows no silent measure
lips & hands in arioso prayer
andante lost to faster pace
crescendo peaks, yet
still
we dream
of things unnamed
We have our first dance on a rooftop garden, the smoggy tangerine of twilight steals ivory from her wedding dress, but she smiles anyway. As comets ignite the sky,I pull her closer, drown my nose in her hair of lilac and gasoline, praying we make it to the end of our song.

I imagine she stuffs sunflower petals into the broken part of my heart, tells me about minnows and memories, that itβs okay, this spidering of souls in our season of parting; but I want her back, and listen for her laughter on the wind, and wish for her fingers in my hair.
