5 May 2026. Jana Kharat arrived in Austria as a refugee at age seven, facing serious language and cultural challenges. She rose to be part of her school’s Junior Ambassadors team, the only Syrian, and participated in visits to several European institutions. Still identified with her homeland, she hopes to contribute to its reconstruction: SANA
More than 4 million hectares of forest are destroyed every year, with real costs for people, nature, and economies. At the 21st UN Forum on Forests, alongside the launch of the Global Forest Goals Report, discussions focused on strengthening implementation - showing us that sustainable use and preservation can go hand-in-hand.
How can one human being contribute to global transformation: By standing for the truth, living in integrity and sharing with love and compassion. It is we the people who will bring about the change we wish to see in the world.

21 April 2026. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, stating “Our two peoples are weary of tragedies,” eagerly supported recent remarks by President al-Sharaa to the Syrian and Lebanese peoples, adding his hopes that both countries can move beyond years of war and toward stability and reconstruction: SANA
The Interactive Dialogues with candidates for UN Secretary‑General began today.
This is potentially the world's toughest job, but it is also one of the most important. The next SG should be the UN Charter's strongest defender.
Justice sits at the centre of multilateralism, underpinning peace and security, human rights, and development. At the solemn sitting to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the ICJ, I highlighted the importance of the Court in resolving disputes peacefully and providing legal clarity where politics cannot. Justice depends on trust, credibility and the willingness to uphold not only the letter but also the spirit of the law.
Love transcends all differences and division. We are gradually realising that they are us, that all is connected and that healing is about the return to oneness.
A 250-meter #Syrian Arab Republic flag was raised in the city of #Homs to emphasize its importance and symbolism, and in rejection of the recent actions that were considered offensive to it. 🇸🇾
This week, at the “The Breath of Freedom” side event I commended the Syrian Government for taking strong action to eliminate all remaining chemical weapons from the previous regime’s arsenal and for helping to provide justice for victims and survivors.
Across the world, Muslims continue to face discrimination, hostility, and even violence because of their faith. This must change.
Discrimination or hatred directed at any community because of its religion has no place in our society.
Today, marking the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, we reaffirm our commitment to dignity, tolerance, and mutual respect.
Standing up against Islamophobia is not only about defending one religious community. It is about defending our shared humanity.
Every day, women and girls collectively spend 250 million hours fetching water for their families. Too often, those who carry the water are the last to be consulted about how to improve access to it. That must change.
At today’s World Water Day Celebrations on the theme Women and Gender Equality, I called for greater participation and representation of women - in technical roles and at the decision-making table - in shaping how water resources are managed.
I also commended the efforts to embrace this pathway to justice, together with international partners, the UN, and the broader international community. Because the eradication of chemical weapons, in tandem with accountability for past crimes, is essential to building a just and inclusive society. Without accountability, there can be no justice. And without justice there can be no lasting peace.
