Jacinta isn't just misinformed, she's aggressively anti-intellectual. She doesn't understand the fundamental difference between a Master's degree and a PhD, let alone how academic appointments, international research grants, or university rankings work. Instead of opening a browser to learn basic higher education hiring standards or realizing that over 80% of Wits staff are South African, she simply weaponizes her own ignorance. Filtering a PDF for Nigerian surnames to trigger social media outrage isn't civic activism, it's the weaponization of illiteracy to feed a cheap, xenophobic narrative.

Calling her out as a black copy-paste of AfriForum is generous, at least AfriForum attempts to read a policy document before filing a lawsuit, whereas Jacinta's entire movement relies on a complete refusal to comprehend basic facts. 😭

Being in Zanzibar shifted something in me in a way I’m still struggling to explain.

So many Tanzanians asked us about Sundowns and told us it was their favourite South African team. Some had read Long Walk to Freedom. They spoke to us about the Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College and about South Africa with so much warmth and familiarity.

It reminded me that our history has never existed in isolation from the rest of Africa. Other African countries sheltered, educated and supported South Africans during some of the darkest periods of apartheid. Our cultures, politics and liberation histories are far more intertwined than the xenophobic discourse back home would have us believe.

Then you come home and watch movements build political relevance by teaching South Africans to view other Africans with suspicion and resentment.

Zanzibar genuinely changed my perspective. I have no patience left for that kind of politics. The politics of xenophobia, scapegoating and anti African hatred must die.
