Le communiqué du Directeur Général de la #CRTV, suite à l'incident technique lors du direct sur le voyage apostolique du Pape Léon XIV au Cameroun, ce mercredi 15 avril 2026.
Urgent: Cameroon’s Chief of Defence Staff, General René Claude Victor Meka, is still alive, according to a fresh update from Cameroon News Agency.
CNA said a military source has asked the outlet to disregard a note purportedly written by CEMA-MINDEF concerning the state of the defence chief. The source described the information as fake news and said General Meka had not died.
The clarification comes after CNA had earlier reported that General Meka had passed away on Saturday afternoon, citing a military source.
General Meka, who has served as Chief of Defence Staff since 2001, was reportedly admitted to the Yaoundé University Teaching Hospital three days ago due to illness.
The conflicting reports have created confusion around the health condition of one of Cameroon’s longest-serving military figures.
As of this report, the government has not issued an official statement on General Meka’s condition.

The great Mandela’s heart would break if he saw how his dreams for South Africa have been crushed by corruption, cronyism, and political opportunists from his own ANC movement. The nation could be great and a world leader instead of being in the swamp. https://t.co/rmPgr64zxO
So Cameroon's Prez Biya is getting a Vice President-the first since 1972. How wise is taking the position since the VP would be the designated successor to the 92 year old Prez. S/he would wear a huge target for the sharks circling and waiting for the end

@ITBMINCOM President TCHIROMA Il faut accepter ce que les Français veulent et Ils vont enléver le veillard au https://t.co/DO1a6N3dkV France 🇫🇷 ne sont pas responsables du manque des ncessités basic au Cameroun.
This is a pathetic statement and, I hope, not entirely demoralizing for the people in #Cameroon who are both yearning for a better future and know the real results of the election (notice how they don't mention that pesky election). Congratulating dictators = not a good look.
The United States congratulates President Paul Biya on his inauguration. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with Cameroon to advance shared goals such as regional peace and security and prosperity for both our peoples.
Breaking News: Four Soldiers Killed in Separatist Ambush in Bambili
At least four Cameroonian soldiers were killed and several others injured early this morning in Bambili, following a deadly ambush by separatist fighters, in what marks yet another tragic escalation of the Anglophone crisis.
The exact circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, but reports indicate that security forces have since secured the area, and an investigation is underway to determine the full details of the incident.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the fallen soldiers or provided further information about the nature of the assault. The attack highlights the continuing volatility and insecurity in the North-West Region, where clashes between government forces and armed separatists persist despite repeated calls for dialogue.
This comes as the Biya regime, which has mismanaged the crisis for over 9 years, is seeking a continuation after falsified election results from the English-speaking regions

Chairman @SenateForeign Risch condemns the Biya regime for its sham election, unlawful detention of U.S. citizens (including Idahoans), enabling Wagner’s illicit activities, hunting political opponents, & letting the Anglophone crisis persist. Warns the regime threatens U.S. interests & calls for a review of the bilateral relationship.
The corrupt Biya regime in Cameroon hunts its political opponents, enables Wagner’s illicit activities, and has created conditions for jihadist groups like Boko Haram and ISIS to thrive and fuel the Anglophone crisis. The regime has staged a sham re-election, and unlawfully detained Americans citizens, including those from Idaho. Cameroon is not a U.S. partner, and poses economic and security risks to the American people. It’s time to reassess this relationship before the blowback gets worse.
I think we need to stop calling sham tragicomedies like what happened in Cameroon, Tanzania, and sadly Ivory Coast "elections"! Anyone have a good word which could describe such theater which happens purely to check a box to keep getting international aid?
"I thank the loyalist army, which has shown its patriotism by escorting me to a safe location and is currently ensuring my protection. I will deliver a solemn address in a few moments," Issa Tchiroma Bakary, October 31st, 2025.

Issa Tchiroma Bakary, one of Cameroon’s leading political figures, has denounced what he describes as an “open war against the Cameroonian people.”
Tchiroma claims that two members of his family and his personal cook were kidnapped in Garoua, accusing the regime of resorting to “assassinations, repression, and other abuses” to maintain power.
He expressed gratitude to what he called the “loyalist army” for ensuring his safety and pledged not to rest until what he calls “the people’s victory” is restored.
“All you will succeed in doing is alienating the people even more,” Tchiroma warned, demanding the immediate release of all those “kidnapped or arbitrarily detained.”
He announced that a solemn address to the nation will follow shortly.

Cameroon opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary said on Friday he had been escorted to a secure location by soldiers loyal to him for his protection, a move that could signal a split within the army following a disputed election. https://t.co/Iml9LCp5LF
Re Cameroon - I guess the Biya regime has run this script so many times it's second nature to them. Make sure Biya is declared "winner" by handpicked election commission; intimidate and arrest opposition figures who protest; wait out public outrage; start over. Eight times now!
For those wondering why US Govt hasn't commented on recent elections-recall that White House declared some months back that US will stop commenting on foreign elections. This does not mean that US won't take some other action, but fact is - statements never achieved much.
