So often, politicians are not “bad by choice” alone, they are trapped in a global trade system that punishes countries like Nigeria for not controlling the currency of their exports

The problem is bigger than politicians. Global trade runs on $, not naira so demand for naira is weak.
We get $ from exports but import more, so the naira keeps falling no matter who's in power.
Politicians operate inside that broken system.
They're symptoms not the root cause.
