5 more innocent lives were taken by 38-year-old Francisco Oropeza using an AR-15 last night in Texas. After his neighbors asked him to stop shooting guns in his yard, he went over to their house and killed 5 people, including an 8-year-old child. Two other children were saved by women who used their bodies as shields.
This won't end until our legislators say "enough is enough." No, common sense gun laws and an assault weapons ban won't prevent every killing, but if it saves one life, it's worth it. If you don't think banning some of these commonly used weapons will prevent death, you are misleading yourself.
I get the 2nd Amendment argument but that doesn't apply here.
The 2nd Amendment doesn't say certain guns can't be banned.
The 2nd Amendment doesn't mean that all gun sales in America can't require background checks.
The 2nd Amendment doesn't prevent mental health checks for owning a firearm.
It's time for action!
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. While we stayed home during the pandemic, domestic violence rates went up. Every 16 hours, a woman is shot and killed by a current or former partner. Ending domestic violence is a part of ending gun violence.
We did it! Yesterday, after intensive lobbying by @NYAGV1 , @youthoverguns and our members, @NYGovCuomo enacted a groundbreaking law that will finally allow #newyorkers to hold the gun industry accountable for the reckless practices that cause so much harm to our communities.
Through the first five months of 2021, gunfire killed more than 8,100 people in the United States, about 54 lives lost per day, according to a Post analysis of data from the Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit research organization. https://t.co/SmzL9gsPRv
The devastation homicide inflicts on black teens and adults is a national crisis, yet it is all too often ignored outside of affected communities. Read our study, “Black Homicide Victimization in the United States,” to learn more: https://t.co/B0293PM87G
This week's been hard, watching all of the graduation parties & last night attending graduation to collect a "shadow box." Now, I need to prepare myself for Fathers Day. Not looking for sympathy, looking for help. Let's send a message with 1,000,000 RT's of #DadsForGunSafety.
As #WearOrange comes to a close, I pledge to #HonorWithAction. As a teen I was raped at gun point. One year later my closest friend took his own life with that very same gun. I will always stand with survivors and will fight with everything I have to #EndGunViolence@MomsDemand

Today should have been Hadiya Pendleton’s 24th birthday.
On January 29th, 2013, she was shot & killed on a playground in Chicago.
Her mother started #WearOrange to honor Hadiya & other victims of gun violence.
Her younger brother is part of @GKMC18 & fights to end violence.
In Maryland heading towards #WearOrange weekend June4-6 to support the efforts of @MomsDemand and @Everytown. May 2021 in the USA averaged more than one mass shooting per day. If you want to work toward change learn more by texting ORANGE to 644-33.
