On my @LBC show last night, NHS nurse Elliot with £100,000 in student debt - who says he’d have to be earning £80,000 a year just to keep pace with the interest he owes. He accrued extra interest during the pandemic because he took time out of studying to help with the Covid response.
And Kieran, a young solicitor who calculated that he’ll have to pay a total of £250,000 on a initial loan of less than £30,000 because the interest keeps going up and up. He pays back £3,500 a year, of which £3,200 is just interest. But his wealthier friends don’t pay a penny because their parents just paid their uni fees for them outright.
“Fair”, @RachelReevesMP? In what world?
