When spending billions, having a credible Plan B is a pretty powerful negotiating tool.
Sometimes you don’t need to win the race.
You just need to make the leader nervous.
Different deals. Same story.
Vendor: pricing jumps in 4 weeks.
I warn the customer.
Customer: we're pushing it through.
Week 5: new pricing hits.
Then the text. The call. The "WTF" email. Every time.
Good news: increases are slowing.
Bad news: don't expect relief before late 2027.
People are mad at Anthropic for the wrong reason.
The court basically said...
Train AI on books, no problem.
Pirate millions of copies? That'll be $1.5B, thanks.
Not evil. Just...didn't think anyone would check.
Imagine getting a quote that's valid for 2 weeks...
...for hardware that won't arrive for 3 months.
Now add internal approvals.
That's AI hardware procurement right now.
Procurement is basically playing a game where the rules and the price keep changing.
