the Ascension
A self portrait
“After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.” Acts 1:9
This piece captures the moment Christ rose into the heavens, leaving His disciples in awe and wonder. Their raised hands and gazes reflect both reverence and longing a mixture of worship and human emotion at witnessing the divine.
By reimagining this sacred event through an African lens, I wanted to bring the story closer to home, reminding us that the Good Book speaks across cultures, time, and place. It is a universal story of hope, faith, and eternal promise
Sitting with an idea requires a different kind of discipline. It asks for restraint. It asks for trust that what is meant to last will not disappear simply because it wasn’t immediately turned into work. When I give an idea time, it begins to reveal its edges. It shows me what belongs to it and what doesn’t. What once felt urgent becomes unnecessary. What remains feels clearer, heavier, more intentional….
