The main theme of Tamasha is "find your way by yourself". Mr Imtiaz Ali uses stairs, doors, windows, routes as visual metaphors in many instances in his narration of Tamasha. His beautiful framing of scenes stands out.
In Aligarh & Bombay Talkies, Dr Siras and Dev discover longing and love through music. It is music that stirs them, carrying their emotions. Interestingly, both films draw on timeless filmi ghazals rendered by Lata Mangeshkar, composed by Madan Mohan & penned by Raja Mehdi Ali Khan. Music may reach many ears, but for those who truly love, it finds its way to the heart, and comes alive. Art is deeply intimate and personal, with neither a beginning nor an end. It only transforms and endures through love & pain.
In the @mehtahansal @Apurvasrani film Aligarh, the bright yellow light of the streetlights is often far from comforting. It takes the form of yellow journalism, keyhole journalism, & society's unforgiving spotlight, seeping into rooms at night like harsh daylight. Yet the same yellow light becomes the midnight sun, & inner glow, as aesthetics of romance and radiance!

It also marks 50 years of Basu Chatterjee's classic Chhoti Si Baat, a pioneer of middle-of-the-road cinema. What continues to fascinate, is his earnest attempt to blend slice of life & romance, along with the music of Salil Chowdhury & R D Burman in his cinema.
French film critic and curator Henri Micciollo wrote this about filmmaker Basu Chatterjee: Known for the keenness of his sense of observation, he translates with great feeling the tension and the conflicts of a situation that brought to life the great majority of Indians. 1/10
Pournami & Baahubali are modern Telugu cinema classics and key milestones in #Prabhas' filmography. The grand action visions, crafted by @MSRajuOfficial and @ssrajamouli, cement Prabhas as the quintessential larger-than-life hero, & hopefully @nagashwin7 does justice to Prabhas' heroic persona! Both films feature intense pre-climax sequences where Siva and Sivudu rescue Chandrakala and Devasena, who risk their lives to perform the sacred fire ritual for them. In these moments, Prabhas' characters embody Shiva’s divine power with god-like intensity, striking a visceral chord with the audience!
If there's any actress who has carried the magnificent smile of Smita Patil, it's #KareenaKapoor. As Chameli, Kareena enthralls even with a simple script, in a way only she can, preserving Smita Patil's joviality in her emotional & layered performance.
#AnushkaShetty, too, saw a part of herself in Smita Patil. Her character, Saroja in Vedam, parallels Zeenat from Mandi—both yearning to break free from their confinements. Anushka does this intense and marginalized character with a restraint, rooted in realism, not doing it overtly theatrical, in one of the most redefining portrayal.
Soaring with dramatic intensity, #AliaBhatt as Gangubai is SLB’s reimagining of Mandi’s Nadira (played by a commanding Soni Razdan)—had she risen to become a brothel madame. Alia, who has often mirrored and idolized her mother, Razdan, in certain performances, fully immerses herself as Gangu, living every moment. SLB also weaves in shades of Shabana Azmi’s iconic Rukmini Bai & the writing of Mandi, to replicate the autocratic nuances. Yet, the film remains true to its adaptation of Gangubai Kothewali, brought to life with Alia’s enchanting performance
Shyam Benegal's Mandi is a true classic that transcends time and generations!
In Mandi, the caged parrot symbolizes Rukmini Bai’s beloved daughter, Zeenat. Their confrontation, set against the white curtain concealing hidden truths, and Zeenat’s eventual escape, poignantly depict the strained relationship between the adoptive mother and daughter.
Also her duets with expressive Mohit Chauhan, Saans mein teri & Taare ginn!
But the trademark Shreya gamakas, is Poolane kunukeyamanta. It was like Rahman composing for Shreya's style of singing, just like Laxmikant-Pyarelal for Lata Mangeshkar, or RD Burman for Asha Bhosle!
"unless people are willing to transcend their fears, endure discomfort & derision, suffer the scorn of loved ones, co-workers & friends, fall into disfavor of perhaps everyone they know, face exclusion & even banishment, it would be humanly impossible for everyone to be that man"
“I feel like everything I’ve done before prepared me for this film,” said Ava DuVernay, writer-director of the critically acclaimed film “Origin.” “There was nothing on set where I felt like, ‘I don’t know how to shoot this scene.’ It was, ‘I got this.’” https://t.co/28UtuAYK6H
"Can we create a system that has no prerequisites of violence or coercion? Civilization is not augmentation, but rectification. My prescription is to create a world that is equitable and less suffering for everyone."

& sexuality. Gender & sexuality have been terribly presented by religion & casteists. It is time for the gender & sexuality to comment back on religion. Turning blind eye to social structures & power dynamics can never reform society nor liberate humans, even if right is claimed.
Any kind of social revolution is simply not even a revolution if it is fragmented. We need to begin with every social construct, every social role, every kind of social conditioning & also every social institution be it caste, class, religion, nationalism that is operating gender
Rajamouli's effort in writing her is commendable.
Happy Birthday to Anushka Shetty, my most favourite actress in Telugu & Tamilzh cinema after Bhanumati, Savitri, Sridevi, Jayasudha, Vijayashanti.
Devasena plays key role in influencing the politics of Mahishmati. She questions the silence of her husband, shuts the loudmouth of the unlawful dictator. Her imprisonment outside the walls of palace, was powerful than the throne & king, in the minds of people.

One can note influence of Dev Anand saab on Shahrukh Khan's dialogue delivery, especially from films like this. And words fall short to describe Waheeda Rehman ji. For me it's her film. Her eyes & subtle expressions are unmatched by anyone, can't be touched even today.
