Last week, I was relieving a Service Manager at another branch while was on leave.
An elderly customer came in to make a withdrawal and asked one of the tellers where the boss was. The teller told him the Service Manager was on leave and that I was in charge.
My desk was right behind the teller, so I heard him lower his voice and say in Hausa, So you people allowed this small girl to be your boss? Can she even do the job?
It wasn’t even the first time I’ve met men like this before, especially in my former branch. The type who believe women shouldn’t be in positions of authority because to them a woman’s place is in the kitchen.
The funny part is they don’t question your competence because they know your work. They question it simply because you’re a woman.
Anyway, the small girl stayed in charge, and the branch ran just fine.

In a university setting, lecturers occupy a position of authority. They are expected to guide and protect their students, not pursue sexual relationships with them. Even if a student initiates such a relationship, university regulations generally require the lecturer to reject it and, where appropriate, report it.

Go and have consensual relationships elsewhere. But your student cannot give consent to a sexual relationship with you because the power imbalance undermines that consent.

And I’m saying this from the perspective of university ethics and professional standards, not from the standpoint of any particular religion.
