We used to build if it was a strategic asset, or buy if it wasn’t doing anything special.

AI adds a new consideration: is it worth compromising with a generic off-the-shelf solution if your teams can use AI to rapidly and cost-effectively build something that fits your business and processes like a glove?

This also ties into the “Is AI killing SaaS?” debate.

Utility SaaS businesses will likely be around for a while. Enterprise SaaS players will need to rethink their models and justify their pricing. There will be fallout.
