@VOCMOpenline I understand the view point. But the messenger is what gets me. HOW do Danny have face to question a deal or an MOU after his disastrous deal of Muskrat Falls that he ran away from after he signed the deal. Doubled in cost, set NL back decades financially.
@VOCMOpenline The time is here to have the bomber fleet increased for sure. If Newfoundland canโt sustain a larger fleet, Maybe the 4 Atlantic provinces need to work together on an Atlantic Province fleet to share resources and expertise.
@VOCMOpenline we do know there are tunnels all over the world? This wouldnโt be the first tunnel ever haha Iโm sure thereโs safety measures in place
@VOCMOpenline wow! Iโm speechless. If that wouldnโt rip your heart out of your chest, what would? Praying for Fred to find the connections he needs to get the help he needs. And praying for you as well Paddy, thatโs some tough calls. Youโre a good man and handle it well.
@VOCMOpenline when we had the analog bag phone we would get service 200 miles off shore on a good day. With digital youโre lucky to get 20 miles from shore
@VOCMOpenline smart on Carny to move coast guard to national defence so the spending there in new ships and so on can be included in the 2.5 or soon to be 5%
@VOCMOpenline as for million lb quotas. These harvesters made hefty investment in those quotas and should not be talked down in this way. Everyone as the same opportunity to buy quota as they did. Some people have the guts to sign the dotted line, some people donโt.
@VOCMOpenline cod and crab is two different licenses. 3L and 3K have the same cod licenses as 2J and last year it was separated. But crab licenses are different. That is why crab and cod is different. As to the union proposal, they didnโt suggest to roll back 2J, they
@VOCMOpenline I hear and understand the publicโs frustration with DFO around a recreational fishery. But imagine trying to operate a commercial fishing enterprise with a crew of 4/5 livelihoods depending on their timelines. For example harvesters didnโt know their 2025 crab
Quotas and opening date until April 4 just 5 days before the opening date. Imagine crew members committing to a job and not knowing their income and quota until 5 days before fishing. Or trying to negotiate with a bank for financing and not knowing this information.
But with the tag system DFO needs to require a โlog bookโ to capture information around stock, catchโs, and use the fishery as a way to collect more information on the great northern cod. If we want a larger recreational fishery then we must assist with gathering information
@VOCMOpenline commercial fish harvester here, not against food fishery or recreational fishery, not against more access, however do not, will not support a free for all.
DFO need to drop recreational fishery dates and issue tags for people to use when they feel they want a fish
@briancallahan67 one would wonder if we have seen an increase in road side garbage since the ban on plastic shopping bags. A few years ago every vehicle had a plastic shopping bag for a garbage bag, we no longer have that.
@DonBradshawLRM Great post Don. But someone needs to remind you this province is mostly based on oil, mining, fishery, and logging, along with others.
None of which this mentioned. Will you be another liberal mp that represents Ottawa to the people instead of representing the people in Ottawa?
@VOCMOpenline didnโt she represent Labrador the last 20 years or so? She was in the position to have Labrador recognized and rewarded now that sheโs retired she speaks up. Good message. Wrong messenger.
Open up May 24 until Labour Day and give people 20 tags. Go and come when they need and want and it will give DFO a way to monitor and gather data on the food fishery for stock assessment.
@VOCMOpenline Theyโre looking for 10 fish a day from Canada Day to Thanksgiving thatโs 105 days. WHAT are they doing 1,050 fish 2100 fillets. HOW much fish do one eat??? That means someone and their spouse have potential of catching 4200 fillets. Like come on people.
