Our findings show that ferric carboxymaltose, an iron treatment given through a drip, is faster and more effective than iron tablets for treating anaemia in pregnancy – and it's just as safe for both mother and baby! 🤰🏽

The closeout ceremony for the IVON trial took place on January 18, 2024, at Radisson Blu Hotel, GRA, Ikeja. In attendance were stakeholders from the Minister of Health, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Intravenous iron, given as a drip (infusion) was found to be safe and effective in pregnancy, compared to oral iron tablets.

IVON is the largest clinical trial done in Nigeria and it was coordinated by the Centre for Clinical Trial, Research and Implementation Science domiciled at the College of Medicine University of Lagos.
