If you’ve experienced bullying and homophobia all your life then it’s no wonder that you’re angry, but direct that anger at the homophobes and the people that hurt you. Don’t internalise it, don’t lash out and blame your LGBT+ allies, don’t become a homophobe yourself.
@OmarGoshTV I too was bullied. I was overweight and have a gay brother (which most school kids think is genetic, at least back then). I mean, I wasnt like beat up for it or anything, but as you said, #wordshurt
As a child and teenager I was bullied for being too skinny and was told I need to eat more. I grew up, gained a bit of weight and guess what? Bullying sucks. My heart goes out to anyone who has been bullied or mentally abused. #wordshurt
@dothehotpants @IWBTeam I wish someone had told every teacher I ever had in my whole life about that. As if being mercilessly bullied by other students wasn’t enough bullshit to put up with.
Today we mark the anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Ireland. We have come a long way. We remember those who suffered. And we know we still have more to do, whether it’s promoting LGBT equality globally, combating bullying or improving sexual health.
Jimmy Fallon: "As you may have heard, last night, the president of the United States went after me on Twitter. So Melania, if you’re watching, I don’t think your anti-bullying campaign is working." https://t.co/lTMfJF1HuJ
I think the problem with bullying is that nobody considers themselves to be the bully. What may seem like harmless fun to you may seem like bullying behaviour to another. If someone tells you that your words are hurtful then please listen.
