I’ve been asked why Orthodox Christians don’t typically evangelize in the same way many Protestant groups do, whether that’s door-to-door, street preaching, or direct outreach.

The short answer is: it’s not because we don’t care; it’s because we understand evangelism differently.

Christ says, ��Behold, I stand at the door and knock.” He does not force His way in. And He also says, “If anyone desires to come after Me…” faith begins with freedom.

In the Orthodox Church, evangelism is first and foremost a way of life. How we live, how we love, how we pray. This is our primary witness.

That doesn’t mean we stay silent. The Church teaches, shares the Gospel, and invites others. But it does so through relationship, patience, and respect—not pressure or persuasion.

Faith is not something to be argued into someone. It is something to be encountered.

If you’re curious or want to learn more, the invitation is simple:

Come to a Divine Liturgy. Come and see. Speak with a priest. Ask questions. Take your time. There is no pressure—only an open door.

So instead of trying to convince, we try, imperfectly, to become a light that others may freely come toward.
