@katebcarp Year 1 my husband was working a crazy job. I was alone with the bean. We were a unit. My department gave me a bassinet for my office. Baby and I worked 7 days a week at 75% speed…taking it slow when we needed to and ignoring the rest of the world. I actually miss those days.
@aliciaandrz Yes! I had a book and a baby (at the same time) then tenure. Hat trick! I did not have a clean house. I had baby barrettes in my hair during faculty meetings.
@kevinrmcclure I live 2 miles from my office and mostly work at home. Same as precovid. I feel the disconnect more now. Our dept is also uneasy with distance and we’ve started having dinner occasionally. Maybe standing lunch date once a week. Not meetings but community.
@JennyAThatcher Fresh garland (or rope as they call it here). Loop over a doorway, lights optional. Hang a few favorite ornaments if feeling nostalgic. Uses up extra tree trimmings (points for recycling) and does not require moving furniture.
@kevinrmcclure A dean of ours (three or four ago) used to award mugs for service etc. When people started to referring to it as “getting mugged” the tradition faded.
