URGENT WINTER GEAR DRIVE in support of houseless and criminalized folks in Ottawa.
It's getting cold! Houseless and criminalized folks in our community are asking for the items listed in this drive to help them make it through the winter.
Please support!
Any help is appreciated.
If she loses her ability to drive, she will be in deep trouble as she is the sole caregiver for her family, including her partner who was irreversibly injured during the police interaction that left her son for dead.
Leave the following note: “for mother in need”
Our friend has no income and didn’t pay rent since November. She will be applying for the one-time top-up by the government, but it’s not enough.
She also has $800 minimum payment on overdue fines and $300 phone payment.
UGENT MUTUAL AID NEEDED:
The mother of someone who was killed by the police back in 2020 is about to lose her apartment, her driver’s licence, and her phone.
Please help.
Goal: $2,900

Was lovely to see so many people out in support of their unhoused neighbours at St Stephen's in the Fields this morning.
Homeless Jesus sculptures, like this one by Timothy Schmalz, are especially powerful when installed in holy spaces for religions that preach about charity.
Truly gross behaviour for a church to call the cops on the unhoused. Grateful for churches (St.Stephen-In-The-Fields) fighting against police evictions.
What a vile thing for a Priest to do - and during Advent, no less - if you are a parishioner of Paroisee St-Joseph d’Orléans, demand that he welcome Rose back, with grovelling apologies, replace her lost belongings, & commit to help fund an apartment for her.
VANDU Tuesday Education & Action Group met yesterday to discuss @LennyNanZhou's motion at City Council to arm @VancouverPD with body cams (BWCs). The VPD are asking for $200k to pilot the program.
Here's what the membership had to say.

@treatment_first Actually, our members open their homes for houseless folks in our neighborhood and beyond as respite spaces.
Folks use our homes to meet, shower, do laundry and sleep.
We’ve been doing this since the beginning of the cold season ✊🏽
@sarahrimmington @beadagainstfash@Cupe79@CUPEOntario@CUPEOntario explicitly told their members over a year ago that should they refuse encampment clearing work on the basis of endangering lives, the Union would stand behind them.
That no @Cupe79 worker has done so means it is ABSOLUTELY their decision to continue killing people.
We are working with folks with lived experience to establish the best, safest, low-cost setups for unhoused folks overwintering outside. Folks need insulation from moisture, a warm foundation, materials that won't mold and cause/exacerbate respiratory illness.
Happening at Allen Gardens in Toronto RIGHT NOW. City workers trashing perfectly good sleeping bags and tents, intentionally breaking tent poles so they can't be reused, knowing full well they will turn away another 200+ people from shelter spaces today and tonight.
UPDATE: one of our members went out and bought a tent!
We made sure Rose has a tent, a tarp, cigarettes, and a warm meal before she heads to bed! 🖤
Solidarity! Not charity!
