We celebrate survival in #cardiogenicshock. But survival to what? Patients may leave the hospital and never truly make it home.
At #HFx we address some big issues:
❤️🩹 The quiet morbidity after “successful” shock care
🧠 What are the neurological consequences and how can we support meaningful recovery? ⛓️💥How can we pull a fragmented system for survivors together?

Echo and CMR look like Amyloidosis.
PYP negative
SIFE and UIFE no M spike.
Lambda 39mg/L, kappa 23, ratio normal.
Heart biopsy = AL lambda
Don’t sleep on an elevated lambda light chain! Elevated lambda that is > kappa requires additional work up
My favorite part about this statement, is there are two posters in the supplementary material that were designed for you to print and hang in your cath lab!
Download from the supplement here: https://t.co/hUtgwRYAY6
Episode 3 @CardioNerds Advanced Heart Failure Series is here! @JasonKatzMD & #DaveKaczorowski discuss perioperative heart tx management- a HF cardiologist & CT surgeon representing a small part of the large team needed to provide excellent care. Enjoy!

2023 was an interesting year for me as a #DO
I took over for our long term program director for the fellowship program. When the ACGME and AOA merged in 2018 one of their “requirements” was that all Program directors had to be ABIM certified. This negated my AOBIM certifications and forced me to retake medicine and cardiology.
As a practicing attending I had to re-study for medicine and finally took cardiology in October. Fortunately I passed both (medicine was tough 🙄). Now I can put this stress behind me and focus on training fellows in the field that I love- #Cardiology
Unfortunately this was the first time I felt push back for being a DO. I was able to practice and take care of patients but because of my DO boards I was not viewed as being able to train MDs in cardiology.
However I jumped through the hoops and am now boarded in medicine and cardiology in both AOBIM and ABIM. At the end of the day I looked at it as a challenge- a way to improve my knowledge and make myself a better doctor. I also took it as a necessity to make sure DOs don’t get pushed out of leadership roles by ACGMEs unfortunate views on training.
I’m excited to put this chapter behind me and focus on Cardiology and the joy it brings me to see our graduates go out and make a difference in the field. Education above all else!

Opening my final email from #NRMP for #MatchDay felt like a big milestone.
Thrilled to be staying in Pittsburgh for advanced fellowship training in #AHFTC next year at @HviUpmc!
So grateful to reach this goal; the list of mentors I have to thank is too long.
