I appreciate my old high school @stpxlancers for reaching out and asking if they could feature me in this month’s alumni newsletter. It was nostalgic to reflect on the road that has taken me from then to where I am today.

Been walking the newly renovated North Course at @DGCGolfClub with a rangefinder before it officially opens to members on June 30.
Getting a feel for the new carry distances and sightlines ahead of next month’s @RocketClassic.
Excited to start playing this thing!
I don’t always hike up a mountain like this, but anytime I can get somewhere elevated and see a little farther than what’s immediately in front of me, it helps unclog the fog.
It gets me out of the weeds and helps me see the higher-level perspective.
I love data, research, thinking, and contemplating.
But the downside is the old analysis paralysis.
When that happens, I’ve found it helps to go higher. Literally.
Then, after all that time, it sends a towering flower stalk 20–30 feet into the sky, blooms in its fullest expression, leaves behind pups, and gradually completes its life cycle over the next 6 months to 2 years.
How amazing!
While at our friends’ wedding this past weekend, Jen and I came across this beautiful century agave plant.
Interestingly, this type of agave may spend 10–30 years as the relatively small green rosette at the bottom of the photo.
As part of the Belle Isle Golf Ace Race Tailgate Party in Detroit, Speedgolfrob attempted to complete the 6-hole short course in just 6 min.
One hole per min.
Cold weather. Wind. Rain. And injured.
One of many fun moments that day.

Last December, as I was getting close to turning 50, I started thinking about those “what would I tell my younger self?” type of articles.
So here’s one of those… for golfers.

Speedgolfrob traveled from Ireland to Detroit for the Belle Isle Golf Ace Race Tailgate Party. Before the main event, we teamed up for a 6-hole pro-pro scramble.

Yesterday at Belle Isle Golf, I took the Seed Golf balls out for a spin ahead of this Saturday’s Ace Race Tailgate Party with Speedgolfrob…
Hole-in-one on 4.
Hole-in-one on 5.
Didn’t see that coming.
Safe to say, the balls work.
Speedgolfrob and I are headed to Belle Isle Golf Detroit for the Ace Race Tailgate Party on Saturday, April 18.
We’ll have a six-hole scramble, Rob will try to play the course in six minutes or less, and then we’ll both go after as many hole-in-ones as we can.
There’ll be food, drinks, music, and a fun day at Belle Isle Golf, followed by an after-party at Green Dot Stables.

5 hole-in-ones from 35 yards. Same distance, 3 par-3 holes, 300 attempts. Different wind and slopes.
One note: the greenside cam died on two of the makes, so it’s tee reactions only on those.

A pro’s odds of holing out from 20 yards are about 1 in 105.
This is 35 yards.
Part of my 300-shot experiment across three par-3 holes.
Miss, Miss, Miss….
Water break.
Reset.
And this.

Part 2: 35 yards. 300 attempts. 3 holes. Real wind and slope changes.
A pro’s odds of holing out from 20 yards are about 1 in 105, so 35 yards should be worse.

I was in my head, so Ben Hogan (Bennie) had me use educational kinesiology, visualization, and grounding breath work to get ready for the shot.
This is professional golf out on the frontier. #Golf#MentalGame https://t.co/bRy5F5LTDp
